GMB star to move to This Morning in ITV presenter shake-up

This Morning: Alison reveals Ben Shephard will be hosting

Holly Willoughby is set to have a surprising co-host on Monday as Ben Shephard makes the move from behind the Good Morning Britain desk to the This Morning sofa.

The unexpected news was announced on Friday by Alison Hammond as she closed the show.

“Holly [Willoughby] will be back on Monday when she’ll be presenting alongside the lovely Ben Shephard,” she said. This led co-host Dermot O’Leary to chime in, “Yeah, Sheppy.”

Since Phillip Schofield left the show, Holly has been joined by several guest presenters.

When contacted for comment by Express.co.uk a spokesperson for ITV for said: “Ben has presented This Morning many times over the years and as previously mentioned we are continuing to use a mix of our family of presenters, and this doesn’t affect anything else.”

In May, it was reported that main presenter Holly Willoughby would front the show without a permanent co-host following the Philip Schofield scandal.

The 42-year-old is instead now joined by a rotation of co-presenters on the sofa including Dermot and Alison as well as former Big Brother star Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle.

The current style is similar to the format that has been in place on Good Morning Britain for the past two years, where Susanna Reid has been the main star since Piers Morgan walked out.

Alison’s announcement came just a few hours after Dermot had appeared on Good Morning Britain to promote his new book Wings of Glory.

His appearance led to the revelation that he and Ben were old friends as an impromptu reunion took place between the pair and fellow presenter Andi Peters.

The trio worked together at Channel 4 in the late 90s when both Dermot, 50, and Ben, 48, were at the beginning of their now stellar television careers.

Meanwhile, Andi was already a TV veteran having started his career in Thames Television before moving to the BBC where he presented on Children’s BBC and Live and Kicking.

Ben said: “What people might not realise, maybe some, is that Dermot and I started on television together, way, way back in the original carnation of Channel 4’s T4.

“And there is someone else there, you might recognise, television’s Andi Peters who gave us both our first jobs in television.”

This Morning is on ITV from 10am-12.30pm Monday to Friday.
