Grand Designs Kevin McCloud details project he has a ‘soft spot’ for

Grand Designs recalls ‘national plea’ which resulted in marriage

Kevin McCloud has shared which project from the latest series of Grand Designs he has a soft spot for.

Hosting the Channel 4 show since it began back in 1999, the 64-year-old has seen some rather unusual and unique homes across the world.

This year, the programme has returned for its 23rd season as viewers continue to see people’s rather ambitious self-build projects.

When asked if he has a favourite from this season, Kevin exclusively told Express.co.uk: “Choosing a favourite would of course cause uproar among our hard-working self-builders so I have to be careful!

“Of course, I have favourites from over the years and in this series, I have a soft spot for John and Noreen’s tree house in Gloucestershire.”

The Channel 4 host explained he has a fondness for the project due to how hard the couple fought to build and finish it.

He continued: “It’s been a decade of work for them, and the results are joyful.

“It’s a large building up in the canopy of the trees that treads super-lightly on its site and on the planet too.”

The Gloucestershire revisit that Kevin had a soft spot for was aired last week as Channel 4 viewers got to learn more about the couple’s story.

After seeing the trials and tribulations they had to go through, including running out of money to finish their home in 2016.

However, by the end of the episode, people saw Jon and Noreen’s dream home complete as Kevin explored the completed project.

Finishing the programme, he said: “They built a dwelling for the human species to live in and in so doing, created an environment for many other species to thrive out here, how amazing is that?”

Next Wednesday, viewers will be taken to Hackney as Graeme and Melanie have huge ambitions for their home.

A synopsis for the episode reads: “They plan to build on a tiny twin garage plot with no surrounding land that cost them £275,000 on a traditional Victorian terraced road.

“Architect Graeme has come up with an unapologetically modernist, bright red-clad design laid out to maximise space over three floors and has set out just 12 months to build it.”

Grand Designs continues Wednesday on Channel 4 from 9pm.
