Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media, Helen and Gorka reflected on their journey together and touched on the fact they’d narrowly avoided the impressive high score each week. The Countryfile star said she has “a lot of respect” for the judges who deliver the scores and feels like she has “already had” her 40 on the BBC competition.

Helen and Gorka are delighted to have made it all the way to this week’s final, where one couple will be crowned the winners.

When asked about the judges and how her highest score was a close 39, Helen explained her thoughts on the sometimes controversial subject.

Often, fans of the show berate the judges for either awarding Strictly stars too highly or being overly critical.

“I would love to get a 40,” she admitted. “But at the same time, wholeheartedly, I feel like we’ve had our 40, do you know what I mean?

“I take on board what the judges say and I have a lot of respect for all of them.

“But actually the thing for me that is getting a 40 is getting it up to Claudia’s [Winkleman] area, seeing you (Gorka) so happy but also Luba [Mushtuk], Katya [Jones] and all of them going crazy!

“When you get scored it’s like, ‘Thank you, but that reaction is worth 60, 70, 80 for me!'”

Despite not having achieved a 40 so far, Helen has impressively avoided being in the dance-off.

“That is a massive compliment,” she explained, smiling at her dance partner.

The impressive feat means Helen has consistently earned enough public votes to secure her a place each week without having to fight for the judges to save her.

She went on: “And we’re very grateful. I think for us the messages that we get every week, we’re quite overwhelmed and it’s quite humbling.”

The 39-year-old laughed: “It’s not something I really thought until this week, when I said, ‘Flipping heck, we never did the dance-off.'”

She repeated: “But it is a massive compliment.”

All contestants will perform three dances on Saturday night, one in which they pick themselves, one the judges select and one celebratory show dance.

Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Shirley Ballas, Anton Du Beke and Motsi Mabuse have chosen a Jive for Helen.

Their previous Jive wowed the judges, and when asked how they would be “spicing it up” further, the couple teased what was in store.

“Well, I think we will find it hard to do that!” Gorka joked.

“You know what? We don’t need to try anything else, I think,” he continued.

The professional dancer explained: “I just want her to go there and do the same routine she did with the same energy and just really enjoy it.

“It’s the second time she’s going to do it and the last time she’s going to do it on that floor.”

He advised Helen: “Just go out there and have the best time.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues with the final show on Saturday at 7.05pm on BBC One.
