Holly Willoughby takes dig at Boris Johnson’s controversial lockdown ‘work event’

This Morning’s Holly Willoughby poked fun at Boris Johnson in the wake of the backlash he’s received for attending a so-called "work event" during lockdown in May 2020.

News recently came to light that Boris and other members of staff at Downing Street met for drinks in the garden and were told to “bring your own booze”.

The email addressed to over 100 employees, written by the Prime Minister's Principal Private Secretary Martin Reynolds, read: “After what has been an incredibly busy period we thought it would be nice to make the most of the lovely weather and have some socially distanced drinks in the No10 garden this evening."

"Please join us from 6pm and bring your own booze," he added.

It’s believed around 40 people attended.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country was in lockdown, and millions of Brits were unable to visit family and friends for weeks on end.

Boris has since issued an apology, but hasn’t claimed full responsibility for his actions and won’t appear to do so until the ongoing enquiry into the matter is finished.

The controversy comes after news broke last year that there was a Christmas party hosted at Number 10 in December 2020.

Millions have people have criticised Boris, including Holly Willoughby who joined in on criticising the Prime Minister alongside the Loose Women panel today, Thursday 13 January.

Chatting to Charlene White ahead of Loose Women coming on, Charlene said the panel were “having a party” to celebrate her one year anniversary on the show, as Linda Robson, Nadia Sawalha and Carol McGiffin sat beside her with party hats on.

“Or is it a work event?”, quipped Charlene.

Charlene then said Holly would be joining them in the studio, and promised to “save (her) some cake”.

Holly replied: “Thank you! I’ll see you at the party… I mean, work event.”

“Don’t forget to bring you own booze,” added Charlene, making another dig at the ongoing controversy at Number 10.

“I always do,” Holly laughed in response, just days after admitting shesmuggled G&Ts into the Dancing on Ice final for her and Phillip Schofieldafter their wrap party was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The mum-of-three revealed: “Last year because of Covid we weren’t allowed a wrap party so I snuck in two of my kids’ water bottles with their names on.

"Nobody could see what was inside it, and I filled them up with gin and tonics, one for Phil and one for me and in the last ad break before the end, I was like, 'We can bring out the gin now.'”
