I don't know why we took so much s**t from our Cornish neighbours, says Gordon Ramsay

GORDON Ramsay has reignited the controversy over his Cornish lockdown stay, insisting he and his family "lived" in the coastal area.

The Sun revealed in April 2020 how locals tried to hound him out — as well as wife Tana and their five kids — after the family upped sticks from London to live in their £4million holiday home during the early stages of the pandemic.

Gordon also caused outrage by going on 60-mile bike rides in the county — but hit back at the time: “There was no law to say that you had to cycle for an hour and an hour only.”

The F Word chef has now looked back at the backlash and told Radio Times he has regrets over taking it on the chin.

Kitchen Nightmares host Gordon said: “God knows why we took so much s**t from the Cornish.

“We lived down there; we just hadn’t been down there for a long time.

"We didn’t sneak down there at all. We got there at an appropriate time, and had an absolutely amazing time.

“And a time like that – we’ll never get back again.

"When the kids started disappearing again, I didn’t want it to end – as a dad, not a chef.”

Gordon spent time between his London home and their “little Cornwall bolthole” since March 2020 with Tana, 46, and children Megan, 22, Holly and Jack, both 21, Tilly, 19, and one-year-old Oscar.

It was a far cry from his usual manic schedule, which involves running a production company, his own telly career and a chain of restaurants.

He told The Sun last year: “Having a chance to spend that time with the family is unprecedented. We were very fortunate, having all seven of us together. What we’re missing now is Jack, who is off being a Royal Marine commando.

“I must have gone through about 150 diapers with Oscar. I can literally change a nappy now with my eyes closed, and he’s become my best mate.”

Gordon was called “disgusting” and accused of “flouting government rules” by one local, despite the star insisting he had done nothing wrong at the time.

They raged: “Don’t you realise that by doing that you’ve possibly brought the virus with you and because Cornwall is not your main residence, if you and your family get sick you will place yet more strain on an already fragile infrastructure.

“I’m reporting you to the police. What you’ve done is against the law and I hope they force you back to London.”

Another bluntly wrote: “P**s off out of Cornwall, you’re not wanted.”

Gordon, who owns a total of three stunning seaside bases, had complained about life in isolation, explaining in one interview that he was “working his fingers to the bone” as he compared himself to a “kitchen porter”.
