I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2023 is well underway – with more famous faces pushed to their limits in the name of light entertainment.
This year’s contestants include the likes of This Morning host Josie Gibson, controversial politician Nigel Farage, former EastEnders actress Danielle Harold, JLS singer Marvin Humes and former Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson.
Famously, the ITV show’s Bushtucker trials are responsible for some of the most testing times the celebrities can endure in the Australian jungle.
However, one of the hardest things the celebs face is being separated from their families for so long. It is for this reason that I’m A Celeb's annual ‘letters from home’ section can provide some of the show’s most emotional moments.
And it’s also why many of the campmates appear to have come up with innovative ways of secretly communicating with their loved ones at home. This year, viewers already believe they have caught Marvin sending a clandestine signal to his family.
The JLS singer was spotted tapping his fist on his heart when he knew the ITV cameras would be on him – as the names of those facing the Bushtucker trials were read out.
His wife, This Morning presenter Rochelle and their children Alaia-Mai, 10, and Valentina, six, and three year old son Blake were sure to be watching on opening night and some think the star didn't waste the opportunity to communicate with them.
Viewers raced to Twitter to let everyone know they were on to Marvin and quickly found out they weren't alone in their observations.
One put: "Marvin is already doing his secret hand sign to home." Another wrote: "Secret signal from Marvin 100%."
Some viewers also believe actress Danielle, known for her role as Lola Pearce on EastEnders, is sending messages home by touching her hat frequently – as a way of letting her family know she is keeping her cool.
But Marvin and Danielle would not be the first celebrities to come up with a secret signal for loved ones watching from home.
Last year, Chris Moyles could be seen sending one to his longtime girlfriend Tiffany Austin during the show. The 49 year old radio DJ, who has been dating talent manager Tiffany since 2015, took the opportunity to send a 'message' to his other half when Ant and Dec went live from the camp to reveal who had been voted to take on the first trial of the series.
As the camera panned to Chris, he held up his hands to create a letter 'T' – clearly code for his girlfriend.
It also emerged that another of last year’s contestants – ITV news presenter Charlene White – had come up with a way of letting husband Andy and their two children know she was doing okay on the show.
Her Loose Women co-star Christine Lampard, discussing Charlene’s appearance on the show last year, explained: "So apparently this is to let us know, and her family know that everything is going OK. Apparently she's going to be rubbing her ear whilst doing this so it looks like an L!"
Owen Warner has also previously revealed he had come up with a sweet signal to let his mum, Polly, know he was missing her prior to entering the jungle last year.
Speaking to The Sun, the Hollyaoks actor said: “I will give her a little one of these [makes a half heart with his hand] it is a love heart, and she does the other half.”
Meanwhile, 2021 winner Giovanna Fletcher would always put her thumb up to her nose and wiggle her fingers when she was on camera during her I’m A Celeb stint – sending a signal to her three sons Buzz, Buddy and Max, who she shares with husband Tom Fletcher.
