I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Josie Gibson has opened up on how having her son Reggie gave her the confidence to succeed in her TV career.
The 38 year old This Morning presenter added she ‘found herself as a woman’ after becoming a mum five years ago. Bristol-born Josie found fame after winning Big Brother in 2010 and landed some TV roles in the years that followed – including a short-lived appearance on celebrity skiing contest The Jump in 2017.
However, her career really began to take off after she joined This Morning as a competition announcer in 2019 – a year after she had Reggie with her property developer ex boyfriend Terry. In 2021, she became a presenter on the hit ITV daytime show, filling in at the last minute for Holly Willoughby, and she has gone on to regularly host the programme after Phillip Schofield left following his affair scandal.
Now, Josie has opened up on how her little boy provided the spark that really helped launch her career. Before entering I'm A Celebrity, she said: “I did not come into myself until I had Reg, I found my confidence when I had Reg.
“And I had a lot more respect for myself after I had Reg and I really found myself as a woman when I had Reg and I really came into my own. He really gave me the confidence that I always wanted.”
Josie went on to say that some people think that having a baby means your life is ‘sort of over’.
“Mine really began again,” she added. “It was when my career kicked off, when Reg was a baby. My confidence was definitely made better by motherhood.”
This week Josie also broke her silence about her rumoured romance after she was seen getting cosy with a mystery man. She has already ruled out the possibility of having a jungle romance while on I’m A Celebrity, and when asked about her recent weight loss, she explained she’d been exercising with her hairdresser – causing people to think that she was in a relationship with her “amazing” running partner.
“Well I don't feel like I’m in great shape but before I knew I was doing this I did hire a personal trainer and we’ve been weight training,” she said.
“And then I've been running with my hairdresser Maurice and everyone thinks that we are an item! We put a picture of us on Instagram, but he's actually my hair stylist.
“He's amazing. And he takes me running. I've never been a runner but now I’ve been running a few 5Ks here and there.”
Meanwhile Josie also ruled out the possibility of a reunion with Australian Big Brother co-star John James Parton, who she met on the show in 2010. Big Brother viewers were gripped when eventual winner Josie and John James grew close in the iconic house, and the pair even went on to date for just under a year.
After leaving the show together, they also starred in a fly-on-the-wall series following their lives together called Josie And John James: What Happened Next before going their separate ways.
When asked about whether she’d meet the TV personality, she said: “I think I’ll give that one a miss. No, we've not spoken for years. They’re your ex for a reason aren’t they eh?”
