Big Brother producers have found themselves in hot water over the last few days after airing a scene which saw contestant Kerry Riches using a homophobic slur in an emotional outburst.
The 40 year old NHS Manager used the term "gay" to express her irritation towards her fellow housemates after the group paid a light-hearted prank on her.
Kerry landed a spot in Big Brother's 'VIP' campsite earlier this week following success during the infamous shopping task, but as she tried to settle down for the night, her co-stars cunningly hid her brand new luxury mattress in an attempt to rile her up.
Trouble-makers Olivia and Jenkin then told Kerry that the viewers had voted for the housemate that they want to see lose their mattress.
The prank went down like a lead balloon with Kerry however, who became increasingly infuriated by her housemates' antics, telling them she'd beg Big Brother for it back, having spent a lot of time outside in the rain.
Expressing her frustration however, Kerry sat down with Olivia and Jenkin to exclaim: "Well, this is gay."
Many viewers have since taken to social media to hit out at the contestant for her use of an "outdated" homophobic slur.
"'Well this is gay', another slip of the mask," one fan of the show posted on Reddit last night.
"I hope Kerry gets reprimanded for that", another added, before a third continued, "I genuinely haven't heard someone use that expression in about 10 years. Shockingly awful and outdated. Actually even surprised Kerry would say it on TV".
"There is nothing wrong with the word gay itself but the problem is the context in which Kerry used it," a fourth penned.
ITV have reportedly told the Daily Star that they are "reviewing" the situation regarding Kerry's controversial comments, being that this isn't the first time that the contestant has found herself under fire.
The star was branded an "actress" earlier this week following another outburst after she was told to sit in the rain in order to win that part of the task, with those who stood in it for the longest being given the opportunity to win the VIP experience.
When it came to the moment that the contestants would decide who was the most deserving, Kerry began screaming at her co-stars to hurry up, before crying.
"Can't stand whenever Olivia and Kerry shout like GIVE IT A REST ABEG #bbuk", one viewer noted on Twitter.
"Why is Kerry shouting in every episode now?!" asked another, while a third noted, "Kerry is such a terrible actress. #bbuk."
