Bad boy Mason Radcliffe only joined the cobbles a couple of months ago but has already made quite an impact. During Wednesday's episode of Coronation Street (November 22), the new villain threatened Liam Connor (Charlie Wrenshall) in upsetting scenes as the ITV soap explores knife crime.
School bully Mason and his cronies humiliated Liam by cornering him in the street and showering him with rubbish. When Mason takes pictures of Liam's ordeal, the terrified schoolboy knocks the phone from his tormentor's hands.
The situation then escalates as Mason pulls out a knife and threatens Liam. Mason has continued to manipulate those around him by leading them astray, particularly when it comes to young Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne).
Actor Luca Toolan has kept Corrie fans gripped with his portrayal of Mason Radcliffe and his intense storylines. But the soap star is no stranger to the limelight as he comes from a talented family.
The 19 year old is the son of a well-known radio DJ who co-hosts a show with a former soap star. DJ Mike Toolan is known for spinning records on The Hits Radio with the help of former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson.
It's clear that the father-son duo share a close bond, as the hunk revealed the first person he called after he landed the role was his dad. Super proud Mike broadcasted the news with his listeners: "Luca has been unveiled as the new baddie (Mason) on Coronation Street.
"Absolute dream come true for him. Liam McCheyne and all the amazing Corrie cast and crew have made him feel so at home," reports The Mirror. Away from the ITV set, Luca regularly gives his social media followers glimpses of his personal life with holiday snaps and photos from his nights out.
Before his Weatherfield debut, he left followers green with envy when he documented his idyllic getaway to Greece. Luca also shared his joy at being cast as Mason on the soap.
Posting a series of snaps from behind the scenes to Instagram, he wrote: "There's a new kid joining the cobbles Mason Radcliffe. It's an honour to be a part of a show that I've grown up on that has some of the warmest and most talented people.
"Thank you to everyone that supported me, you know who you are. Thank God always. And my bigger smaller brothers Liam and Charlie."
In a recent interview with Digital Spy, Luca has shared his excitement at sharing forthcoming scenes with actor Chris Gascoyne who plays the iconic role of Peter Barlow. He said: "It was class! Although I've not spoken to Chris loads because we've only filmed a few scenes together, he's really taken me and Liam [McCheyne, who plays Dylan] under his wing."
Speaking about a forthcoming Corrie episode, he added: "In the scene, Peter boots the door down. I've watched Corrie all my life, so it was a surreal moment.
"You could see the rage in his eyes and it's like: 'Okay, that's how it's done!' It was special and I did learn a lot. Seeing Chris in action was great."
Coronation Street airs on ITV every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
