James celebrated the Hindu festival which celebrates spring, love, and new life.
He was seen embracing the festival of colour as thousands of people lined the streets throwing bright powders in the air.
The Bristol-born star covered more than 3,000 miles of the Indian subcontinent.
He then covered Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur, before following the Ganges eastwards to the holy city of Varanasi.
Next, followed a trip to Kolkata. He then headed to the Himalayan foothills around Darjeeling before ending his journey in the natural wonders of the Sundarbans.
Speaking about the new series, the presenter star said: “I’ve been to India before and it’s mesmerising. I can’t wait to go back for series three of Our Man In…”
James’ solo series comes after it was reported that his show The Grand Tour, who he films with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond, would not be continuing.
A source told The Sun: “It’s a surprising decision and everyone realises it very much marks the end of an era for the three presenters.
“The Grand Tour is one of Prime Video’s most watched shows and Jeremy, James and Richard have a devoted following.
“But the guys have made no bones about the fact they’re all advancing in years and they have lots of other projects to pursue.”
Express Online understands the show itself might yet continue, with Prime Video exploring options on how to move forward.
The three-part series launches on Amazon Prime Video on January 5.
