Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page has revealed how she cheated death after a taxi driver took her hostage and demanded nude photos.
The star she her ordeal unfolded after she flew to South Africa for an acting job. She told a travel supplement: “I went to South Africa solo to film a costume drama and had a driver and chaperone.
“I was dropped off at the hotel and told not to go out anywhere alone, but one night I was so bored in the hotel I decided to take a taxi to go out shopping. The receptionist called me a cab but kept telling me it was a bad idea.

“I went to a shopping centre and when it got to about 5.30pm the mood just completely changed. I was stranded without the number of my chaperone and had no idea how to get back so got into a random taxi. The driver drove me around for about an hour and refused to take me back to the hotel. He was saying all sorts of stuff and that he wanted to drive me somewhere to take nude photos of me.
“I honestly think I was lucky to get out of there alive. My strategy was to act pally and make him laugh but I had a lot of moments of thinking, “Oh my God, I’m going to die.” In the end I managed to win him over and get him to take me back to the hotel. I’ve never been more grateful to get out of a car in my life. Aside from that it was an amazing trip and I went whale-watching with the actors Charles Dance and Sam Neill, who were hilarious and such good company.”
