Superman will soon be played by a black actor and Justice League director Zack Snyder is already a fan.
While promoting the upcoming zombie flick Army of the Dead, director Zack Snyder told the Daily Star that he supports this new direction for the Man of Steel.
“I’m a fan,” said Snyder on the prospect of a black Superman. “I’m interested to see what happens – it’s a bold and cool and probably long overdue move.”
A new Superman movie was confirmed to be in the works with a black actor in the role of Superman, as well as a black director at the helm.
Comic book writer Ta-Nehisi Coates – who has written Marvel’s Black Panther as well as Captain America comics – is reportedly writing the script, while acclaimed director JJ Abrams is on board to produce.
“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honour,” said Coates.
“I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America´s most iconic mythic hero.”
Although little is known about the upcoming film, it will be the first time a black Superman has appeared on the big screen.
And while no casting announcements have been made, there’s been plenty of speculation.

Michael B. Jordan was tipped for the role back in 2019 but told The Hollywood Reporter just last month: “I'm flattered that people have me in that conversation.”
“It's definitely a compliment, but I'm just watching on this one.”
Either way, it looks as though Henry Cavill’s stint as Superman may have come to an end.
“I love Henry as Superman – of course I do,” said Snyder. “He’s my Superman.”
But while the former DC director approves of the bold new casting choice, Zack Snyder also explains that he has no idea what will happen, or who will be cast in the iconic role.
“I’m not really involved with any of the decision-making at Warner Bros. in any way,” he explained. “I guess for me, it’s just, wait and see what they do with this and how it manifests itself. But on the surface, it seems interesting.”
“I love JJ and I love what he’s done in the past,” Snyder added. “I’m interested to see what happens.”
