Kate Garraway was left ‘mortified’ after mistakenly sending money to the wrong person as an eye infection left her struggling to see.

The presenter explained on Good Morning Britain that her son Billy has had to read her text messages out for her as she gets better, but she has eye drops and is ‘being looked after’.

Kate reassured viewers it was ‘nothing serious’ but was getting in the way of her cracking on with daily life.

She told co-host Ranvir Singh on Thursday’s programme: ‘I couldn’t see. I can barely see the autocue at the best of times but I had an eye infection last Friday.

‘It was watering a little bit and then it spread to the other eye and so I couldn’t put my contacts in, I couldn’t see anything.’

Detailing the embarrassing moment, Kate went on: ‘I actually was sending random texts to people with the wrong thing, really confusing.

‘I transferred some money into the wrong account – I had to ask for it back. I transferred money to somebody it was mortifying. Then I got an inner ear infection…’

Ranvir quipped: ‘You’ve had a quiet year, it’s about time you had your…you know what I mean?’ referring to her husband Derek being hospitalised for over a year with Covid-19.

”Nothing serious just frustrating and annoying,’ Kate clarified.

At one point when the infection was at its worst she had her children read things out to her.

Ranvir said: ‘We were texting weren’t we and you said, “Can you text me the details then my children can read…” Your children are turning into your agents.’

‘Billy who’s dyslexic was reading out people’s texts to me,’ Kate added.

Asked how she was going now the TV host shared: ‘I am I’m alright, I’ve got eye drops and I’m being looked after.

‘I can see a bit better, it’s still all a bit blurry.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
