UK fans of The Traitors have been left confused after the line-up for the US version of the show was announced, including Love Island star Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu and former House Of Commons speaker John Bercow.
The gameshow was hosted by Claudia Winkleman in the UK and featured a group of strangers split into Faithfuls and Traitors as they compete to win a cash prize.
Unlike the UK version, however, the US version of the show features an all celebrity line-up, with stars from across Love Island, Big Brother, Real Housewives, and RuPaul’s Drag Race all set to take part in its second season.
The first season of The Traitors US was released earlier this year, with some fans having mixed feelings about its all celebrity format.
The new line-up includes Love Island 2022 winner Ekin-Su, who won the show alongside Davide Sanclimenti, and UK parliament’s John Bercow, who resigned as Speaker of the House Of Commons in 2019.
The Traitors US will see a total of 21 celebrities compete to win a cash prize of $250,000 (£203,000).
Some fans are loving the eclectic line-up of celebrities, though, with one writing on Twitter: “Numerous ICONIC housewives, Peppermint, Ekin Su (!) and John Bercow the literal speaker of the House of Commons all on the same show I feel like I’m having a stroke?? This could be Celeb Big Brother 2016 levels of iconic if they play their cards right”.
Another person wrote: “John Bercow being cast on Traitors US is the breaking point of the simulation. This is the singularity. The event horizon.”
Someone else put: “Sorry but I got so excited about Ekin Su I totally missed that… John Bercow is also on the line-up”.
Meanwhile, a fourth person wrote: “JOHN BERCOW is on the US Traitors alongside EKIN SU I cannot breathe”.
Other stars on the line-up include Carsten “Bergie” Bergersen (Love Island USA), Chris “CT” Tamburello (The Challenge), Dan Gheesling (Big Brother), boxer Deontay Wilder, Janelle Pierzina (Big Brother), Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio (The Challenge) and Kevin Kreider (Bling Empire).
They will be joined by Larsa Pippen (The Real Housewives of Miami), basketball player Marcus Jordan, Maksim Chmerkovskiy (Dancing with the Stars), Mercedes “MJ” Javid (Shahs of Sunset), Parvati Shallow (Survivor), Peppermint (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Peter Weber (The Bachelor) and Phaedra Parks (The Real Housewives of Atlanta).
Completing the line-up is Sandra Diaz-Twine (Survivor), Shereé Whitfield (The Real Housewives of Atlanta), Tamra Judge (The Real Housewives of Orange County) and Trishelle Cannatella (Real World: Las Vegas).
The Traitors US season two is expected to air later in 2023, with episodes expected to be available via BBC iPlayer as with season one.
