Peri Lomax (Ruby O’Donnell) received a major shock in Hollyoaks on Friday (September 8) while digging into Rayne Royce’s (Jemma Donovan) past, finding out that her ex, Brent, is actually still alive.
Brent, as viewers know, was thought to have taken his own life several years ago, with Rayne often referring to his tragic suicide and the effect it had on her during her live streams.
But if we’ve learned anything about the influencer during her time in the eponymous village, it’s that not a single word of hers can be trusted, with her having lied and manipulated many of her fellow twenty-somethings.
Desperate for attention, Rayne lied about finding a lump to distract Romeo Nightingale (Owen Warner), who was grieving the loss of his sister Juliet (Niamh Blackshaw), who died from cancer.
She then claimed Prince McQueen (Malique Thompson-Dwyer) attempted to assault her, and lied about having self-harmed in the aftermath to make Romeo feel for her. The very same Romeo, who she later assaulted.
Peri, meanwhile, has been on to Rayne, determined to find out the truth about what she’s been up to, with recent scenes seeing her make a huge breakthrough in a bid to find out what the social media star is hiding.
Due to scheduling changes, a double-bill of the Channel 4 soap aired on E4 on Friday, and therefore viewers saw a major twist earlier than expected, as Peri made her way to the home of Cheryl, Brent’s mum, hoping to get some information on what happened to her son.
But in shocking scenes, it was confirmed that Brent is actually alive.
This of course leaves us with questions galore.
Did Brent stage his own death? Did manipulative Rayne put him up to it? Just what does this all actually mean?

We’re keeping tight-lipped on that, we’re afraid, so you’ll just have to tune in to find out when the next episode hits screens, but what we can confirm is that Peri will find herself in danger in subsequent episodes.
Rayne, meanwhile, will meet a shocking end in a special stunt week, set to air later in the month. But will Peri, or Brent, for that matter, prove to be her downfall?
Hollyoaks continues Tuesday September 12 at 7pm on E4 or stream first from 12:01am on Tuesday over on All4.
