Martin Scorsese Quizzed On Internet Slang In TikTok Video, Revealing That Lily Gladstone “Ate” & ‘The King Of Comedy’ Was “Slept On”

Martin Scorsese has become TikTok famous thanks to his daughter — and his latest outing on the social media network features him getting to grips with internet slang.

Complete with a high-pitched voice effect, the decorated director was grilled on the meaning of Gen Z words during a five-minute video posted by Francesca Scorsese.

Scorsese knew what might give someone the “ick” and was able to explain why something “hits different,” but he struggled with phrases including “sneaky link” (a secret hookup) and “ship” (wishing for two people to enter a relationship).

There was also a couple of revealing moments about Scorsese’s work during the TikTok video. He pondered on how Lily Gladstone “ate” in Killers of the Flower Moon, his upcoming movie. “They use to say ‘ruled’ [the screen]. She did very well,” he said.

In another moment Scorsese reflected on the critical reception for The King Of Comedy when asked about the meaning of “slept on.” Francesca said the film was “slept on,” which Martin interpreted as: “People hated it when it came out.” He continued: “It was the flop of the year, that’s what it was called on Entertainment Tonight … It’s ok, it’s alright.”

The duo rounded out the quiz by reflecting on the meaning of “slaps” and “slays.” Francesca said: “This video slays … we slayed in this video.” Martin responded: “That means it’s really good.” Watch the full video below.
