Friends star Matthew Perry dies aged 54

Before his shocking death, Matthew Perry was reportedly sober, attending an Alcoholics Anonymous programme, and wanted to help others with their addiction.

The star had candidly spoken out about his recovery as well as his numerous relapses throughout his career.

At the weekend, Matthew was found unresponsive in a hot tub and although a cause of death has yet to be confirmed, sources revealed no drugs were found on the scene.

Despite this, fears had grown about a potential relapse causing him to have drowned and died.

However, a member of his AA program insisted: “Matty wasn’t drinking. He was a big part of our AA community.

“He was attending meetings, speaking at meetings and was working with a handful of newcomers.

“He had a sponsor and was a sponsor. He seemed to be doing well,” they added to DailyMail.com.

The insider told the publication Matthew had been focused on helping others with their recovery and wanted to share more of his story at public speaking events.

“Matty said he wanted to return to universities and speak about alcoholism. That was his gift. He could speak so well and motivate people.
