Nicholas Lyndhurst and family release statement over death of son Archie, 19

Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas Lyndhurst has released a short statement following the death of his 19-year-old son, Archie.

News broke today about the death of actor Archie, who was found in his home in Fulham, west London on September 22.

Mum Lucy was one of the first to pay tribute to her son, who was a CBBC favourite as Ollie on series So Awkward.

Now Nicholas has released his own statement, and simply stated: ‘Lucy and I are utterly grief stricken and respectfully request privacy.’

Archie’s death is currently being treated as non-suspicious, with an inquest due to take place next week.

He was remembered by his So Awkward cast mates as having ‘the most beautiful soul’ as they came to terms with the shock loss.

Nicholas’s Only Fools cast mate John Challis, who plays Boycie, also sent his condolences to his friend and said: ‘The saddest news of all today.

‘The death of Archie Lyndhurst, just starting out on his chosen career in acting.

‘My heart aches for Nick and Lucy. They could not have loved him more.’

In order to help his young fanbase come to terms with his death, CBBC have released a series of links and advice on the Newsround website.

Ahead of today’s episode of So Awkward, host Joe Tasker broke the news to the pre-teen audience, and said: ‘Of course this is something we’ve never expected to even talk about in CBBC HQ.

‘Needless to say, all our thoughts and sympathies here at CBBC go out to Archie’s friends and family.

‘We’ve had him as a guest here plenty of times in HQ and all I’ve heard is everyone speak so highly of him and that he was such a brilliant guy and such a great actor as well.’

‘We encourage you to speak to anyone that’s close with you. Anyone you trust like family, friends, brother or sister,’ he added.
