How did Daddy die in Orange is the New Black?
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Orange is the New Black
In the first episode of Orange is the New Black season seven (Beginning of the End), there was a huge sweep of the prison looking for drugs.
At some point, it is revealed that Daddy has died of a drug overdose.
We are led to believe that Daddy may have had an accidental overdose due to an accident in hiding the drugs on her person.
However, in the following episode, we found out that Daddy was a victim of manslaughter.
Orange is the New Black season seven, episode two (Just Desserts) featured a conversation between Daya and her mother Aleida (Elizabeth Rodriguez) which revealed what happened to the former’s ex-girlfriend.
Aleida said: “You cannot blame yourself for this,” and Daya replied: “Yes, I can.”
Her mother responded: “You didn’t make her take those drugs, Daya.”
However, it seems like that is exactly what happened to Daddy.
Daya said: “Look, I just wanted to teach her a lesson.
“I wanted her to stop cheating. I didn’t think she was gonna f****** die.”
Daddy’s death came after Daya caught her having sex with another of her followers, Annalisa Damiva (Christna Toth).
In Daya and Aleida’s conversation, we find out that Daya used the batch of tainted ‘bath salts’ that nearly killed Barb Denning (Mackenzie Phillips) in the previous series.
Daya said: “Barb just freaked out when she took it.”
The ‘bath salts’ made an appearance later on in season seven of OITNB too.
Taystee Jefferson (Danielle Brooks) bought them from Daya and intended to take them as a suicide attempt, though eventually had a change of heart.
