Outlander’s Catriona Balfe discusses parenting during filming
Outlander is well renowned for its sex scenes and actress Caitriona Balfe has addressed how they have changed since the hiring of an intimacy co-ordinator.
The Starz period drama wouldn’t quite be the same without its raunchy moments, primarily between Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).
Outlander is one of the sauciest shows on the small screen with fans loving watching the passionate moments between them as well as some of the other couples in the series.
The stars may be considered experts in this field after seven seasons but the creators decided to bring in an intimacy co-ordinator on set in the shape of Vanessa Coffey.
Actress Balfe admitted during an interview at the ATX TV Festival that she was initially sceptical about the idea.

“We’ve also started working with the most incredible intimacy co-ordinator and it’s amazing, because I probably was one of the people like ‘I don’t think we need that, we’ve been doing this s**t ourselves and figuring it out for a while’.
“But actually I think it’s been so beneficial and it’s helped us, and there are other scenes with other characters, some I’ve been involved in, and some with our younger actors too.
“It helps you create the storytelling in a way where everybody’s on board, everybody knows exactly what’s happening, we’re all on the same page.
“Just like you would do with fight co-ordination or whatever and it’s really helped.
“Vanessa [Coffey] is such an amazing addition to our family as well, she’s just been really great.”

Prior to Coffey becoming an intimacy co-ordinator, she was in a very different line of work, with a career as a corporate lawyer.
She then went on to become an actress and movement director before studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland where she worked as a lecturer and consulted on projects involving intimate content.
Fast forward to today and Coffey has worked on some of the biggest shows around, including Wednesday, Happy Valley, The Witcher, Good Omens and Vikings: Valhalla.
According to her IMDb page, she also has a number of other work lined up, such as Vigil, I Know A Place and House of the Dragon.

Outlander returned for season seven back in June with the first eight episodes released.
However, this is just the first half of the series with another eight left to air on Starz.
Given the strikes in Hollywood continue to delay productions, Outlander isn’t likely to return until 2024.
