Pierce Brosnan relentlessly mocked for Icelandic accent in Netflix's Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

IF you thought Pierce Brosnan’s singing in Mamma Mia! was bad, you are going to have a hoot watching his new film.

He appears in Netflix’s Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga opposite Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams and the star has been relentlessly mocked since its release on Friday for his dodgy Icelandic accent.

Pierce plays fisherman Erick Erickssong, whose son, Will’s character Lars, represents Iceland at Eurovision.

And viewers have been left in hysterics by Pierce’s vocal delivery, which they said sounded more like Welsh, Irish and even Italian than that of someone from Iceland.

Liam Fallon wrote on Twitter: “Pierce Brosnan’s Icelandic accent is somehow worse than his Mamma Mia! singing.”

And referencing a town in Wales, Ciron Gruffydd tweeted: “I think Pierce Brosnan had learned an Icelandic accent for this one and went shopping in Iceland Pwllheli as his only research.”

Thankfully he was stopped from giving any vocal musical performances.

Pierce joked: “I did bring in my platinum album, my gold album and said, ‘Look, I got this from Mamma Mia! Why don’t I have a song here, guys?’

“I think Will got a little bit . . . I think he just got a little bit sensitive about that, and you know, ego.”

That was probably for the best.

Greater spotted Beyonce

BEYONCE got fierce to promote her upcoming visual album Black Is King, by dressing in leopard print.

Inspired by The Lion King, the album is due out on Disney+ on July 31 and confirms The Sun’s story earlier this month that she is teaming up with Disney in an £80million deal.

The album features Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino and her husband Jay Z and is described as a “celebratory memoir for the world on the black experience”.

She continued that mantra at Sunday’s virtual BET Awards, in which she gave a speech urging black communities to vote in November’s US presidential election.

Accepting an award for humanitarian work, she said: “I’m encouraging you to continue to take action, continue to change and dismantle a racist and unequal system.

“We have to vote like our life depends on it, because it does.”

Drinking sup time

GWYNETH Paltrow’s Goop website is now flogging a gadget to help people who are too thick to remember to have a drink every now and then.

The Ulla device, which sells for £24, clips on to water bottles and flashes to remind users to drink the water that’s in front of them.

The actress’s blog says: “Using Ulla is simple . . . If an hour goes by and you haven’t taken a drink, the device blinks to remind you that water exists and you should have some.”

Next up, gizmos to remind people to breathe and blink.

Kim's in a tight state

KIM Kardashian and Kanye West seem to be angling for a role in The Matrix 4 with these outfits, although she could easily never work again after her latest pay cheque.

Today the reality star overtook her little sister Kylie Jenner to become the richest member of the Kardashian family when she was declared a billionaire in the US.

Cosmetics company Coty forked out £163million for a 20 per cent stake in Kim’s beauty firm, which means it is now valued at £800million – or a billion dollars.

And Kanye, who was in the studio with Snoop Dogg and Dr Dre at the weekend, had good news for fans today when he announced his tenth album God’s Country.

Meanwhile, it was business as usual for the couple as they squeezed into ridiculous leather gear which made them the butt of jokes on social media.

One fan said: “Looks like she took apart the couch and made an outfit.”

Given that Kanye is launching a clothing range with Gap next year, I hope his High Street options are a bit more down-to-earth.

Moff's put off

SCARLETT Moffatt says she hates watching a lot of old films because so many are offensive to women.

The former Gogglebox star said her police officer boyfriend Scott Dobinson recently tried to get her to watch 1995 action comedy Bad Boys but she gave up after 30 minutes.

She said: “We watched half an hour. As you get older as a woman, you realise how sexist Nineties films are.

“Within five minutes there was someone with her boobs out and a little skirt as if all we are is meat. I was like, ‘What is this s**t?’ ”

Instead Scarlett is desperate to be able to go back to the cinema to catch a scary movie, saying: “I miss watching horror.”
