Cliff Richard admits to fears over falling onstage
Cliff Richard opened up about his fears of falling off the stage in an interview on Monday’s This Morning.
The Mistletoe and Wine hitmaker, who is celebrating 65 years in the music industry, sat down with Alison Hammond, Dermot O’Leary, and guest presenter Sarah Ferguson.
However, when asked about his key to staying fit and healthy, Sir Cliff said his career would come to an end if he fell down while performing.
He began: “I made my first record, I was 17 and on my 18th birthday it reached number four on the charts, and it got to number two.”
Sarah went on to ask: “When we were just watching you then…you’re doing all the hip movements and you were dancing away. You’re incredible. How do you manage?”

Sir Cliff admitted: “Well I don’t do what I have done in the past.”
“I mean, 25-30 years ago, I’d be on stage and you’d have boy dancers and I’d be doing,” the singer explained as he demonstrated some dance moves.
“I’m not a dancer, but they helped me, [and they’d go] ‘Ok do this’…I can’t do that anymore.
“In fact, I am worried to do it, if I did it and fell over or something like that then that would be the end [of his career].

“So I’ve kept myself fit. I’m on a regime of eating.”
Alison went on to ask: “How many meals a day do you have because I heard a little rumour you have one a day.”
“I went through a period of having one a day,” Sir Cliff admitted. “It’s what is right for your bloody type.
“And so I stick with that, and sometimes now I realise that I’m just not hungry.
“So I have a yogurt, maybe or some Muesli for breakfast and then come lunch I am thinking, ‘No, I don’t want anything’.”
“Can I come over to your house and stay for a week,” Alison joked.
Sir Cliff laughed before he replied: “Absolutely.”
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
