Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) has spent years of her life yearning to be a mother, only to face setback after setback in Coronation Street but finally, there is hope for her as the fostering panel progress with her and Imran Habeeb’s (Charlie de Melo) bid to be foster parents.
However, the timing is terrible as they can’t possibly celebrate given Toyah’s sister Leanne (Jane Danson) is going through the worst possible thing a parent can experience as she knows her desperately ill son Oliver is going to die.
Oliver is on life support and the consensus from the doctors involved is that the time might be now to consider switching it off as he will never be able to live or breathe without it.
Toyah has been Leanne’s rock throughout it while at the same time feeling guilty that there is light at the end of her own tunnel.
As she and Imran are given the seal of approval, they are closer than ever – but Leanne is suddenly hit with the news that the treatment in Germany that she was banking on for a hope at saving Oliver can’t go ahead as he is too ill.
As she cracks under the pressure and declares her agony that everyone is abandoning her son, Toyah and Imran ache and reach the decision to call off their meeting with the social services fostering panel.
But will this set them back in their long term dream?
And how will Leanne feel when she finds out the sacrifice her sister is prepared to make in order to protect her feelings and be there for her?
