Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick) has been battling bowel cancer in Emmerdale, and — in spite of her determination to beat the disease — she’s been taking precautions to ensure son Johnny is well looked after in case things took a turn for the worse, and — in the coming episodes — she makes a huge decision on this front, and it’s one that leaves Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) hurt.
With the operation having been a success, Vanessa began her chemotherapy in episodes broadcast during the last week — something which she found incredibly difficult to focus on given that she and Charity have been at each other’s throats.
When Charity caused something of a scene during her treatment, Vanessa was less than pleased, and proceeded to go out and get drunk with best pal Rhona (Zoe Henry).
While out in the pub, she ended up clashing with a uni student in an altercation which went viral.
In spite of the animosity between her and Charity, things were looking up for the pair, but when Vanessa made clear that — in the event of her death — she wants charity to take care of Johnny, Charity seemed a bit hesitant, which caused further friction between the two.
In the coming episodes, Vanessa asks Rhona if she would be Johnny’s guardian in the event of her death, and she later reveals her decision to Charity — which leaves her incredibly hurt.
Will Vanessa’s decision be final?
What’s more, will her rift with Charity remain unhealed?
