Strictly champ Giovanni Pernice sweetly gifted his glitterball trophy to his parents

Strictly Come Dancing champion Giovanni Pernice revealed that he has kindly given his winners' glitterball trophy to his parents as they love the show so much.

The Strictly professional appeared on This Morning alongside his dance partner, Rose Ayling-Ellis, 27, as the pair caught up with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby for one of their first TV interviews since winning the BBC dance competition in 2021.

During their intervew, Giovanni revealed that after the momentous win had sunk in, he flew the trophy out to his parents in Sicily and sweetly gave it to them as they are “massive fans” of the show.

Giovanni explained: “Yes, my Mum and Dad are massive fans so I think it was the right thing to do to bring it to them and now it’s there with them.”

Phillip asked: “Did they keep it?” Giovanni gushed: “Yes! Of course!

The professional dancer joked he would have to win “another one” so that he could also “keep” one at his home too.

After seven years on the show, Giovanni, 31, admitted it was “phenomenal” to finally win.

He began: “It’s been nice, because you reached the final and the end of the journey, but winning has always been my dream.”

"And to finally win and do it with Rose, the whole experience and journey has been phenomenal, so that was the cherry on the cake.”

Phillip asked the star if he slept with his trophy after winning or if it was given a prized placed on the shelf.

Giovanni continued: “Did I sleep with my glitterball trophy? Yes, oh my God, yes. I’ve been reaching for seven years and at the end when I got it, I put it on my pillow next to me and was like, 'oh hello.'”

EastEnders star Rose and her partner Giovanni made history when they won the BBC dance contest in 2021, as Rose was the first deaf contestant to take part in and be crowned the champ of the show.

In their couple’s choice routine Giovanni and Rose cut out the music in “Symphony” by Clean Bandit to dance in silence for a few moments as a tribute to the deaf community.

The duo revealed that they will also be performing that dance on the Strictly tour as they want to experience the powerful moment with an audience of 10,000 people in arenas too.

The couple’s appearance on the This Morning sofa comes only days after Rose and Giovanni had a sweet reunion meal in London.
