Strictlys Shirley Ballas emotional as Adam Thomas fights tears in tribute

Strictly: Ryan Thomas cries at Adam Thomas’ performance

Strictly Come Dancing’s head judge Shirley Ballas admitted to feeling “emotional” after watching Adam Thomas’ routine.

Dancing his Couple’s Choice with professional partner Luba Mushtuk to a 90s Backstreet Boys medley, BBC viewers learned the meaning behind his dance.

In a pre-recorded clip, the Waterloo Road star paid tribute to his two brothers as he confessed they wanted to be in a boyband.

Adam highlighted that as his father was a Motown singer, it was more than likely the reason he enjoyed entertaining people.

In the clip, he said: “My dad left us when we were kids, it was tough for my brother being at such a young age to step in.”

As Adam’s older brother confessed to taking on the father figure role, it became clear how close the three brothers were.

Taking to the dancefloor, the judges were thrilled with his performance as Shirley Ballas seemed overwhelmed with his routine.

When it came to giving feedback, she said: “I feel like you’re quite emotional and in that case, you’re making me rather emotional today.

“First of all, I think your story was lovely with your family.

“This is blending as a team, absolutely beautiful, you are every single week bringing something new.”

In the end, the duo were given a total of 32 for their routine which is the same score they were awarded the previous week.

Speaking about their dance, Adam told Claudia Winkleman: “There was a lot of emotion going on tonight.

“You know what, I just used that to put it into energy. I feel like I went out there and did my best I could do.”

Although Adam’s routine was impressive and has put him high up on the leaderboard, in first place at the moment are Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin.

Doing the Salsa, the pair blew the judges away and were given the highest mark of the season after getting three 10s and one nine.

Will Adam’s couple’s choice be enough to keep him in the competition?
