Shrek: Trailer for 2001 DreamWorks animated film
Taste Film has been something of a social media sensation, with videos of fans enjoying its culinary delights going viral.
The concept is simple yet genius: watch a well-known film while tasting dishes and sipping cocktails related to the specific scene you’re viewing at that moment. We simply had to try it.
Heading to north-west London, Express.co.uk found ourselves in a modern pub waiting at the bar for the special Taste Film side room to open up.
Clearly, the immersive experience is well known around the world as a must-do in the UK’s capital, as we chatted to some Aussies who’d just landed for it, while a group of Americans were lamenting having missed out on tickets.
It wasn’t long before we were welcomed into the intimate space with a cinema projector screen and sat down at a beautifully laid table with a themed menu, lantern and a bowl of the best popcorn we’ve ever tasted.

As Shrek began with Smash Mouth’s All Star, our first themed course was a cocktail called Hard Chocolate Swamp Milk, poured into a generously sized bowl resting on a mini tree stump.
As we guzzled down our first drink of the night, it wasn’t long before the starter arrived in time for the orge on the big screen to sit down for his dinner for one.
Ours was a tasty baked and glazed stuffed tomato that we surprisingly enjoyed despite not normally being partial to the red fruit.
Next came Lord Farquaad’s interrogation scene and the most fun course of distressed Gingerbread men we had to decorate ourselves with gumdrop buttons. This was particularly yummy, although the decorative icing was quite hard to squeeze out of its tubes.

Approaching the castle, Donkey comes face to face with his future scaly wife, and so we were aptly presented with a Dragon Fruit Mule cocktail.
Next was the main course “Rat roast”, a rotisserie chicken with parsley potatoes and roasted carrot which was well presented.
The dessert, for when Shrek announces his true love for Fiona, was fittingly called “The Big Reveal” and consisted of Raspberry and Vanilla Ice Cream with a Pistachio Heart that had to be broken into with your spoon.
All in all, we felt it was a five-star experience with four-star food across imaginative courses. Although being at least £75 a head may mean saving Taste Film for a special occasion or if the film is an all-time favourite of yours. Nevertheless, we can’t wait to see what they cook up next!
Shrek is screening at Taste Film until September 22. To book tickets and see what other films are coming up, click here.
