The Grand Tour's future is apparently in question after it was reported that its stars Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have quit the show.

It has been reported that the trio "just felt like the time was right and wanted to go out on a high when the show remained popular". It comes days after the BBC announced that it was shelving Top Gear, which Jeremy, James and Richard starred on before The Grand Tour.

The TV stars launched The Grand Tour programme in 2016, after their departure from Top Gear, which they had been on together for around 13 years. Viewers loved the Amazon show and it has now aired five series.

A source told The Sun: “It’s a surprising decision and everyone realises it very much marks the end of an era for the three presenters. The Grand Tour is one of Prime Video’s most watched shows and Jeremy, James and Richard have a devoted following."

The insider said the stars "have made no bones about the fact they’re all advancing in years", with Jeremy and James in their 60s and Richard turning 54 in December. "They just felt like the time was right and wanted to go out on a high when the show remained popular," the insider added.

If the news is true, fans don't have to worry just yet as there are more episodes of The Grand Tour still to come.

Jeremy, Richard and James were a huge hit on Top Gear, but in 2015 Jeremy was dropped after an altercation with one of the show’s producers. When he left, the others followed, insisting they came as "a package”.

The BBC announced earlier this month that it was going to "rest" Top Gear and that it would not be on "for the foreseeable future". The decision came after presenter Freddie Flintoff was hurt in a crash while he was filming.

Daily Star has contacted Amazon and representatives for the stars for comment.
