The Little Mermaid seems to have made a splash with its Disney+ debut.
After hitting the streaming service on September 6, the live-action adaptation tallied 16M views in its first five days, according to Disney. That makes it the most-viewed premiere on the platform since Hocus Pocus 2.
A view for Disney is defined as a total stream time divided by runtime available, which is also how Netflix reports its audience data.
The Mouse House has recently begun sharing more audience data for its bigger releases. Last month, Disney reported that the premiere episode of Ahsoka tallied 14M views in its first week, making the series No. 1 worldwide on the platform.
The live-action The Little Mermaid, which premiered in theaters over Memorial Day weekend to $118.6M in North America, has also resulted in “tremendous engagement” for the animated films on Disney+, the studio said.
