Strictly Come Dancing star Tom Fletcher broke down in tears on It Takes Two as he discussed his axe from the show.

McFly frontman Tom was eliminated at the weekend following an incredibly tense dance-off against Rhys Stephenson, with the judges voting to save Rhys and his partner Nancy Xu.

Tom and his professional dance partner Amy Dowden, meanwhile, were axed from the programme.

Appearing on spin-off show It Takes Two with host Rylan Clark, Tom had tissues to hand as he and Amy both broke down in tears, which he quickly wiped away from under his glasses as they watched a highlights reel of their time together on the show.

Rylan said: "Tom, I can just see how much this journey has meant to you. Listen, don't be embarrassed because this is what a show like this does. It takes over your life, it becomes such a massive part of your life. Amy becomes literally your best friend."

"Can't get rid of her!" Tom quipped through his tears.

Rylan added: "Well, you say that but I know this isn't the end for you two."

Tom emotionally admitted: "No, we're booked in. We're dancing tomorrow. We're literally dancing tomorrow, we're going to the training room tomorrow, and the next day – as long as you still want to!

"I've loved it so much," he said as he began crying again. "I told you, it won't stop!"

The musician went on to admit that his son Buzz had also cried at Tom's elimination from the competition the morning after.

He explained of his sons: "They've loved it. They've been on this journey with us, and Amy has taught them to dance. They've loved every second."

"They were dancing last night with me!" an emotional Amy interjected.

Tom added: "I'm only crying because I've had the best time. And I'm so, so happy I did this show."

Rylan shared: "I'm gutted that you're both gone. Keep dancing, we can't wait to see you dance this week, wherever it's going to end up! Missing you already."

Fans were equally as emotional on social media, as one penned: "Oh Tom. Love it when people show emotion!"

"Tom and Amy, you are amazing! Left too soon," someone else echoed.

While a third fan added: "I am actually gutted watching their moments back after Tom and Amy left the competition! They didn't deserve to go!! It would have been great to see Tom's passion like he has now on #ItTakesTwo. Would have been finalists for sure."
