Two-bed house on sale for just £25,000 – but it's a bit of a fixer-upper

Property prices can be pretty eye-watering at the best of times, and bargains typically come with a catch.

For example, this Durham home is on the market for just £25,000, which makes it less than a tenth of the cost of the average UK home.

The catch? It’s definitely a fixer-upper.

The two-bedroom home comes with a reception room, a kitchen and a bathroom, as well as a courtyard.

In the kitchen, there appears to be a hole in the ceiling and no major appliances.

Someone seems to have got paint all over the edges of some of the items in the kitchen as well, and the windows there and in the living room are boarded up.

There’s what looks like tile or lino on the kitchen floor, but in the reception room there’s just concrete.

Most of the walls and ceilings in photos are a dark share of mauve, which will need repainting as there are quite a few scuff marks and what looks like signs of possible water damage in at least one room.

The place looks a little dated and in need of a good clean overall, but it’s spacious and appears to have a lot of potential.

According to the UK House Price Index, the average cost of a home i the UK was £268,349 as of October 2021.

Quite different to £25,000.

Before you go for a house like this, it’s very important to get a scope of the work that will need doing and how much that will cost.

It’s all well and good getting a project house, but if the monetary, physical and emotional toll of the work adds up.
