With so many unanswered questions to be resolved in Virgin River season five, none least how Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) will cope with being new parents, fans have been scouring the web for any clues on how things will pan out. However, in Breckenridge’s latest update as filming continues, it looks like there won’t just be a change to her and Jack’s romance, but rather how Mel will look in the new season.
That’s because Breckenridge has wowed fans by debuting an all-new hairstyle on her Instagram page.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Breckenridge showed off her new bangs hairstyle, much to the delight of fans.
“Do you guys remember that one time I said I was gonna get bangs?” the Virgin River star teased as she spoke to the camera.
She then smiled before continuing: “I actually tried to get bangs when I was working on This Is Us the last season.
“We were trying to figure out what kind of hairstyle to give Sophie [her This Is Us character] so that… because we were going into the future so much.
“We were like, ‘Well what can we do that’s different?’ And I said, ‘Well, I could do long bangs, that’s different’.
“I knew they didn’t want to chop all my hair off. Originally they were gonna do a wig, they were gonna do a short wig and a different colour.
“Then they got too scared to do the bangs, so I was told. I don’t really know, I don’t know why the decision was made.”
Breckenridge’s change to her hairstyle comes with still a few more days to go filming on the fifth season of Virgin River.
In fact, according to What’s on Netflix, filming is set to conclude on Wednesday, November 16.
This would mean there would still be plenty of time for Breckenridge to debut the new look in the scenes she’s yet to film.
And this hasn’t gone unnoticed by members of the fandom, with some tipping Virgin River could adopt a time jump to incorporate the star’s new style.

Replying to Breckenridge’s clip, which was shared by fan account @virgin_river_moments, Virgin River fan @alexbfan15 predicted: “I wasn’t sure at first but it suits her, and a change is good!
“She looks gorgeous as always. I can’t help thinking we might see a time jump.”
Meanwhile, fellow viewer @bettynewberry79 called for the makeup team on the show not to change the new look.
They weighed in: “I know you’re acting but don’t let them mess up your beautiful hair!”
And inevitably, a number of fans were quick to simply compliment Breckenridge on her all-new look.
“Love the bangs! You are beautiful!” @barnes_1957 added to the conversation.
While @malipstreuer shared their own praise of the actor: “I think you look great with bangs, Alex.”
Virgin River seasons 1-4 are available to stream on Netflix now.
