The sixth season of Outlander will officially premiere on Sunday, March 6 2022. Fans of the time-travelling epic drama have been waiting since 2020 for the popular Starz series to return, and some reactions on Twitter suggest some viewers are disappointed with the latest announcement.
Some Starz viewers have expressed frustration and confusion after the long-awaited release date for the sixth season of Outlander was finally confirmed.
The US network confirmed the series will return on March 6, with international premieres still to follow.
However, fans were promised a return in early 2022 this year, and some don’t think the show’s spring premiere is fulfilling the commitment.
Plus, Outlander enthusiasts have more reason to complain as season six will comprise just eight episodes this time around.
Several viewers took to social media to voice their disappointment after it was confirmed they’ll have to wait almost another four months for the next episodes.
Redditor whiskynwine asked: “So nine months from the end of filming to airing for eight episodes.
“Would love to know the reasons but will enjoy it regardless.”
Season six has been filming throughout the year, but will still be falling short of Outlander’s normal season length by about four episodes.
Despite this year’s ‘Droughtlander’ lasting longer than ever, viewers only have eight episodes to look forward to and the new instalment will be over by May 2022.
Twitter user Joyce Marlatt said: “March 6th… I was counting on February at the latest and secretly hoping for a surprise at the end of January.”
They then exclaimed: “Man oh man, why such a delay?”
Outlander’s devoted fanbase was holding out hope for a swift return in the new year after Starz assured them the series will continue in early 2022.

Thankfully, the series will be heading back into production for an extended seventh season soon, but for now, viewers will have to be satisfied with a limited run next spring.
Eleta Parris tweeted: “By the time I finish reading book nine, it will almost be time for season six!”
And Jessica Daitch said: “That feels like a really long time from now.
“I can’t even remember when season five was on… but I’m still [happy emoji].”
In a new synopsis, Starz teased: “Season six explores what happens when there is disharmony and division among the inhabitants of the home you’ve created.
“When you become an outsider or an ‘outlander,’ so to speak, marginalized and rejected in your own home.”
