More than 300 cats have been found in a cramped Toronto apartment.

They were discovered by Toronto Cat Rescue which described the situation as a ‘perilous hoarding situation.’

Originally, there were originally thought to be only 70 cats in the home, but when officials arrived they found there were more than 300.

70 cats were removed from the home and are now in foster care.

There were quite a few pregnant cats in the group who are due to give birth to kittens very soon.

‘This is the second large cat hoarding situation we have been involved with in a month! It’s very important that this NOT continue,’ Toronto Cat Rescue said in a statement.

‘It’s a terrible way for cats to live. If you know that someone has too many cats, it is best to report it sooner rather than later. Unsterilized cats breed prolifically, and with only a nine week gestation things get out of control VERY quickly,’ the posting on Facebook read.

The felines have now been placed in foster care according to CTV and are said to be doing well.

The cats will all have to be spayed or neutered, and vaccinated before they’re able to be put up for adoption.

It’s not known whether criminal charges would be brought against the woman who owned them.

In March, 105 cats were discovered inside a local home.

Toronto Cat Rescue was involved once again. Many of the kitties had to be treated for fleas, worms and fur loss.

The city allows a maximum of six cats in one home.
