Baby 'found crawling through home where mum and son, 9, had been stabbed to death by violent ex-boyfriend'

A BABY was discovered crawling around a home where a mum and her son were "brutally" stabbed to death by her violent ex, a court heard.

Daniel Boulton is accused of knifing Bethany Vincent, 26, and nine-year-old Darren "DJ" Henson "numerous times" at her home in Louth, Lincs.

The 30-year-old then led police on a 24-hour manhunt before allegedly stabbing an off-duty cop in the leg.

Lincoln Crown Court heard how Bethany was discovered lying on her side in the front room following the horror on May 31 last year.

Darren was found next to his bed – with both him and his mum bludgeoned as well as stabbed to death, jurors were told.

A nine-month-old child had also been found at the property, "untouched and unharmed but clearly distressed and crawling through the house."

Boulton denies murder, assault with intent to resist arrest, and burglary – claiming his ability to exercise self-control had been "impaired".

The court was told Bethany and Boulton started a relationship in March 2019 and "appeared happy" but it soon soured.

He allegedly began displaying "increasing violence" towards her and her parents – with police eventually slapping him with a restraining order.

A further restraining order was made after another incident in February 2021 but Boulton continued to show up at Bethany's home and message her, it was said.

Jurors were told social services were involved with the family after Bethany first reported Boulton for domestic violence in November 2020.

Opening the case, prosecutor Katherine Goddard QC said: "Their concerns related only to the risk Mr Boulton presented to the family.

"He had, by then, expressed a hatred of DJ, a nine-year-old boy… who had been diagnosed with autism."

The court heard how Bethany and Darren had been due to move home to an unknown address.

But Boulton stabbed the mum and son to death just days before they moved away from him, it was said.

MANHUNT

He was seen running from an alleyway leading to the back of the house looking "flushed, agitated" and begging for someone to call an ambulance.

The alleged killer then "casually walked away" before emergency crews arrived.

Ms Goddard said: "In the downstairs front room, they found Bethany lying on her side, half curled into a ball, clearly already dead.

"Upstairs, they found DJ, lying on his side alongside his bed, also clearly dead.

"Both appeared to have been stabbed numerous times and, in addition to obvious stab wounds, they had marks consistent with blunt force trauma – being hit by something."

The court was told Boulton fled the scene and forced entry to an empty cottage where he stole clothing and food.

COP 'STABBED'

He also wrote a note saying: "I, Daniel Boulton, take full responsibility for 182 [Bethany's house number]."

The next morning, an off-duty police officer was walking his dogs nearby when he came across Boulton, it was said.

The prosecutor said: "There was a short confrontation, (with) blows being exchanged between the two men.

"Mr Boulton ran off, pursued by PC Dennis, and during a second confrontation Mr Boulton pulled out a knife and stabbed PC Dennis in the leg.

"Once again, Mr Boulton ran off, but PC Dennis had managed to contact his police colleagues and soon the area was flooded with police."

Boulton, of Alexandra Road, Skegness, denies murdering Ms Vincent and her son, assault with intent to resist arrest, and burglary.

The trial continues.
