Bijou Phillips’ sister and Wilson Phillips singer Chynna Phillips Baldwin is facing backlash for ‘asking for prayers’ after brother in law Danny Masterson was sentenced for the rapes of two women.
Chynna, 55, went on Instagram on Monday to share a quote about praying even when you ‘don’t feel like’ it that was not well received by her 84,000 followers.
‘If you don’t feel like Praying, force it. Because something is also forcing you not to pray,’ the quote Chynna shared stated, alongside the caption ‘#yep.’
Underneath the post, Chynna – who has been married to actor Billy Baldwin for 28 years – received hundreds of comments from angry fans and followers.
‘I will NOT be forced to do anything I do not want to do. No one should be forced to do anything they don’t want to. Something your brother-in-law OBVIOUSLY never learned,’ one commenter wrote.
Masterson on Thursday was sentenced to 30 years in prison for raping two women at the height of his fame in 2003 while he was still starring on ‘That 70’s Show.’

Chynna – who is the daughter of The Mamas & Papas’ John Phillips and Michelle Phillips – shared her controversial post to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon.
The Wilson Phillips singer did not publicly name Masterson but fans made a connection considering the recentness of his sentencing.
In her post, she begged fans to pray even when they don’t feel like it, which left fans with a bad taste in their mouth.
Hundreds of comments poured in under her post calling her quote ‘tone dead’ and addressing the ‘bad timing’ of telling her followers to pray.
‘You need to request prayers for the victims, don’t you think.’
“Force it” like Danny Masterson forced his victims? How tone deaf and gross.’
‘Pray for victims of SA [sexual assault] and that powerful people stop covering up assault, apologizing for assailants and posting low key pretentious instas about Jesus rather than taking accountability for the harm their family has done to people.’
‘Yes please force yourself to pray for Danny mastersons victims instead of writing letters on his behalf.’
Baldwin – who married Chynna in 1995 – wrote a character reference to the judge for his brother in law, however, it has not been reported that Chynna wrote one.
In his letter, the brother of Alec and Stephen Baldwin said he has never ‘met a person that was a more caring, dedicated, trustworthy, and loyal’ person than Masterson.
Billy Baldwin was among big names like Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher, Debra Jo Rupp, Kurtwood Smith, and Giovanni Ribisi who wrote character references.

After Masterson was found guilty in May, Judge Charlaine Olmedo had to order a distressed Bijou to ‘maintain her composure’ – or go outside.
On September 7, Bijou was blown a kiss by Masterson as he was escorted out of the courtroom following the judge announcing his multi-decade prison term.
The 47 year-old Scientologist had no reaction as Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Olmedo handed down her decision – 15 years for each felony rape.
Bijou looked dejected as she sat amid a grim group of Scientology friends and family members. At one point, she held a handkerchief up to her face.
At the time, Judge Olmedo told Masterson, ‘you are not the victim here. Your actions 20 years ago were criminal and that is why you are here today.’
During the sentencing trial, Jane Doe #1 called Masterson a ‘true coward and heartless monster,’ adding that she still suffers from an extreme fear of the dark.
The woman also told the court she frequently wakes up crying.
Before he was sentenced, Masterson’s attorney, Shawn Holley, urged the judge to impose concurrent, not consecutive 15 year to life sentences.
Judge Olmedo ultimately gave Masterson consecutive sentences.

Deputy District Attorney Reinhold Mueller asked the judge to hand down a 30-to-life sentence, saying that Holley’s plea for just 15 years was ‘not fair and just.’
‘After Masterson raped the first time he had time to think about what he had inflicted,’ he said. ‘Despite that, he raped again.’
Masterson had two trials. His first, six months earlier, resulted in a mistrial after a different jury were hopelessly deadlocked on all three rape charges.
Masterson was free on $3.3million bail throughout both trials.
But that freedom ended with his double conviction May 31 and he was locked up in the notorious Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles since then.
Masterson’s victims shared horrific details of their stories in heartbreaking statements read in court before his sentencing.
The women, known to the court as Jane Doe #1, #2 and #3, focused on not only on the disturbing details of the sexual assaults but also described how they were intimidated and driven from their community as the church of Scientology punished them for speaking up.
In her letter, Jane Doe #1, who has also been known as ‘Jen B,’ recalled how Masterson raped her on the eve of her father’s 55th birthday on April 24, 2003.
She said her own mother cut contact with her once she reported the rape to police.
Jen B wrote that she woke up at the home of her friend and fellow Scientologist, Masterson’s then-assistant Brie Shaffer after being drugged and raped, per her statement.

While the judge was deadlocked on her allegations, Masterson’s ex-girlfriend and Jane Doe #3 Carnell-Bixler (pictured) also wrote a victim statement to the judge
‘I still don’t recall what I wore out the door, [defense attorney] Mr Cohen. But I do know one thing you didn’t ask me… I never could find my underwear. I know this because when I got home, I didn’t have any on. And I remember being upset and embarrassed about the idea that my underwear were somewhere at Danny’s house’ she wrote.
Jen B’s letter went on to tell the judge how the church of Scientology handled her claims, making her pay for hours of interrogation sessions and forcing her to meet with Masterson so he could apologize and ‘promise to never do it again.’
She said Masterson mocked her during the meeting, after claiming ‘he would apologize and make a promise to never repeat such a crime on any woman if he could just hear me describe in detail how awful and violent the assault had been for me.’
‘I still remember him laughing and saying he was afraid I might knock over the lamp on his nightstand and he loved that lamp,’ she added.
The jury was deadlocked in a third charge for the rape of Jane Doe #3, who is the actor’s ex-girlfriend Chrissie Carnell-Bixler.
Carnell-Bixler also wrote a victim statement to the judge, sharing the pain she endured as she was repeatedly told she could not have been raped by someone she was in a relationship with.
Carnell-Bixler claims Masterson raped her while she was asleep at his Hollywood Hills home in 2004. The two dated from 1996 to the early 2000s.
She wrote: ‘How can I tell anyone that I had gotten myself in a situation where I was regularly mentally and emotionally abused, and raped repeatedly?
‘I’ve suffered insomnia. I would oftentimes stay awake for 24 hour periods. I hate the dark. I cannot sleep next to anyone, not even my husband’
She added that she was only 18 when Masterson isolated her from friends and family as he emotionally and sexually abused her and echoed Jen B’s claims about being harassed by Scientology officials after she spoke up.
