Coronavirus UK LIVE: Total UK cases hit 15 as two more Brits test positive for Covid-19

TWO new cases of Coronavirus have been confirmed in the UK after they caught the deadly bug in Italy and Tenerife.

A parent at a primary school in Derbyshire is 'confirmed' to be one of two new people to contract Covid-19 leading the school to close.

Pupils at Prince George and and Princess Charlotte's school have self-isolated after returning from Coronavirus-hit northern Italy.

  • GP SURGERY MINUTES AWAY FROM SCHOOL WITH CORONAVIRUS PARENT SHUTS

    Buxton Medical Practice, just a two minute drive from Burbage Primary School where a parent was diagnosed with coronavirus has shut its doors.

    In a statement the GP surgery said: “We have a confirmed case of coronavirus, we are liaising with Public Health England the CCG to ensure all appropriate actions are taken.

    “Please do not come to the practice.”

  • EUROPEAN COMMISSION INJECTS £94M INTO WHO CORONAVIRUS RESPONSE PLAN

    The European Commission has earmarked€114 million for a coronavirus response plan, organised by the World Health Organisation.

    The Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan will hand money over to health bosses in Africa, and funds will also be channelled into developing diagnostics and treatment.

    Millions were also set aside to cover repatriation flights.

  • SAUDI BANS MECCA PILGRIMAGE

    Saudi Arabia has BANNED the holy Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca in a bid to stop the spread of deadly coronavirus.

    Foreign visitors will not be able to visit the holy city, Muhammad's Mosque and the Kaaba and those from affected regions will not even be able to enter the kingdom.

    Officials say the unprecedented move is just temporary, but Muslims around the world are worried the move could affect the annual Hajj pilgrimage later this summer.

  • CORONAVIRUS SPREADS FASTER THAN SARS AND EBOLA

    A new animation capturing the frighteningly fast spread of coronavirus shows how the killer flu outpaces past deadly epidemics.

    t shows that initially, the Covid-19 outbreak was slower than Ebola, swine flu and SARS – which is also a type of coronavirus.

    However, 41 days into each respective outbreak, Ebola had infected 243 people, 520 had been sickened with swine flu and 3,600 had SARS.

    By comparison, the new coronavirus outbreak had more than 41,700 cases worldwide by Day 41.

    The animation, created by production company Abacada, was uploaded to YouTube on February 12.

    Since then Covid-19 cases have risen to more than 82,000 globally with 2,800 people dying from the illness.

    The new virus is part of the same family of coronaviruses as both SARS and MERS.

    By the time SARS was contained in May 2004, it had claimed the lives of 774 people and sickened 8,098 – a mortality of 10 per cent.

    Meanwhile, there have been a reported 2,518 MERS cases with 866 deaths since its emergence in 2012 with a mortality rate of 34 per cent.

    The video also compares the new coronavirus to the Ebola outbreak which hit West Africa in 2014.

  • YET ANOTHER BRIT SCHOOL SHUT AFTER PARENT DIAGNOSED WITH CORONAVIRUS

    One of the two new Brit coronavirus cases is a parent at a Derbyshire primary school.

    Burbage Primary School in Buxom has shut its doors, warnings parents and pupils over Whatsapp last night to stay away.

    The school will now undergo a thorough deep clean in a bid to halt the bug's spread.

    Burbage Primary School's head Anthony Tierney said: “We are shut, it is just a precaution. I can’t say anything more at the moment.”
