Customers walk out of restaurant without even ORDERING and leave a two star review… but sassy owner hits back | The Sun

A CUSTOMER walked out of a restaurant without even ordering and then left a two star review – but the sassy owner has hit back.

The disgruntled diner slapped owners of an Italian eatery in Sale, Greater Manchester, with a negative review.

SUD Pasta in Blossom Street Ancoats serves dozens of "delicious" dishes inspired by southern Italian cuisine.

But one shocked customer walked out off when he realised the restaurant didn't serve vodka.

The diner took to a reviewing website to share his disappointing experience.

He blasted: "Booked a table for four but must be the only restaurant that does not serve vodka!

"Why not, because it's not 'of the country' just ridiculous an my friend only drinks vodka.

"We left immediately so can't comment on the food or service. The staff could not explain why they don't serve vodka. They were no use at all."

Their menus serve a wide variety of Italian drinks – including beers, red and white wine.

But vodka doesn't feature in the menu.

The sassy owner has now dubbed the incident "vodkagate" and made fun of the criticism.

They hit back at the customer, branding the review "comical".

The SUD co-owner said: "We're a Southern Italian pasta kitchen so the reason 'vodkagate' is comical is essentially vodka is a highly popular drink but everything on our menu is geared around Southern Italian dining.

"Obviously the comedy side is demanding vodka has to be on our menu."

The restaurateur remained positive despite the heated row and said the damning review is "constructive feedback".

The boss added: "Reviews are subjective. In the restaurant business you have to sometimes take them with a pinch of salt.

"Sometimes they're golden and you can take a lot from them, it's constructive feedback. Other times it isn't, and sometimes it's hilarious."

The popular Greater Manchester restaurant has branches in Sale, Ancoats and Altrincha.

Owners also took to their social media account to expose the customer.

On an Instagram post they said: "We also don't serve tequila, rum, or New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

"All very popular but have nothing to do with South Italian dining."

In response, the angry customer clapped back and claimed vodka is actually a "traditional" ingredient in Italian gastronomy.

He said: "If you didn't know – which as a restaurant you should – vodka sauce is a very traditional Italian recipe celebrated throughout Italy and uses vodka, as the main ingredient!

"If you want to criticize [sic] a review, get to know your sources [sic]!"

The post has now gained more than 3,000 likes and thousands of comments from users.

Many shared their support and slammed the customer for his choice of drink.

One user said: "I think if this friend ‘only drinks vodka’ they may want to seek medical help. Or at least an intervention."

But others disagreed and said their menu includes "unauthentic" Italian drinks.

One customer said: "Agree with your point but must admit I've always struggled with the authenticity of your beer selection.

"Where is the southern Italian influence on a beer on the menu named the Mancunian?"

The restaurant replied: "Haha yeah we hear you! The basic strapline for us is 'inspired by the Italian South, made in Manchester'. The beer definitely fits the second category!"
