Dog dies in pool of blood after being dragged behind pickup truck on leash and 'ran over twice'

The Shar Pei-cross fell from the vehicle as it sped up and was dragged in front of shocked diners in Queensland, Australia on January 18.

Onlookers saw the tethered dog try to keep up with the speeding truck before it went under the wheel at least twice.

Tahwyn Breneger, 27, posted about the incident on Faceboo, along with images showing the dog lying in a pool of blood.

She told The Courier-Mail: "From what witnesses said, he was dragged past the Pine Beach Hotel, around on Granville and then around onto Emu Street which is where the lead, that was attached to his chain, had snapped and the dog was left on the road."

Tahwyn rushed to help the pup along with others and took it to a local veterinary surgery.

She wrote in the Facebook post: "The dog was so tough and determined that he actually walked into the vet himself after all that trauma!"

But sadly the dog died that night from its injuries.

The post was shared over 4,000 times and amassed over 4,600 comments, as social media users expressed their outrage.

One commented: "The poor baby…I hope the owner is found and justly dealt with."

While another wrote: "This owner needs to be held accountable. Horrific."
