The father of a murdered Sandy Hook victim has slammed Elon Musk as a ‘sociopath’ after he reinstated conspiracy theorist Alex Jones to X.
David Wheeler, whose son Benjamin, 6, lost his life in the 2012 massacre at his school, told TMZ the billionaire has ‘no convictions’ in welcoming Jones despite his previously taunting and harassing of Sandy Hook victim families.
Wheeler previously testified against Jones as the alt-right radio host lost a $965 million defamation lawsuit last year, for past claims that the shooting that killed 20 first-graders and six teachers had been a ‘false flag’ hoax.
Musk restored Jones’ account to the platform following a controversial user poll this week, a year after he pledged not to allow Jones back because of his own grief in losing a child, and he had ‘no mercy for anyone who would use the deaths of children for gain, politics or fame.’

Within hours of the school shooting in December 2012, Jones was claiming it was a ‘false flag’ attack concocted by the federal government for an excuse to recall guns.
He would go on to say the massacre has ‘got inside job written all over it’, and ‘there’s a cover-up, there’s actors, they’re manipulating, they’ve been caught lying, and they were pre-planning before it and rolled out with it.’
Jones was first found liable for damages against families of Sandy Hook victims in 2022, after Wheeler was joined by grieving parents in detailing the impact Jones’ antics had on them.
They recalled receiving death threats and said Jones motivated people to show up at their homes, with some stricken parents forced to live in hiding through fear of Jones’ followers, and were unable to visit their children’s graves.
Wheeler testified that when one extremist turned up at his home, they demanded to see Ben, insisting he was alive.
‘It was demeaning. It felt like being delegitimized in a way,’ he said, adding that Jones’ followers cited a student film he made in college as proof he was a ‘crisis actor.’
‘It’s very stressing,’ he testified at one hearing. The total damages Jones has been ordered to pay have risen to almost $1.5 billion, however Jones has since declared bankruptcy.
Wheeler said he stopped using X when Musk bought it last year, but was not surprised to see the Tesla chief welcome the far-right figurehead back.
Jones was reinstated following a user poll of almost two million votes tweeted out by Musk on Saturday, which saw 70 percent of users vote to reinstate Jones’ account.
‘The people have spoken and so it shall be,’ Musk said at the conclusion of the poll.
Stricken Sandy Hook families said they were forced into hiding through fears of Jones’ followers, who claimed within hours of the shooting that it was a hoax concocted by the government as an excuse to round up guns
Musk’s change of tune to his past stance that he had ‘no mercy’ for Jones led Wheeler to feel his family’s tormenter was allowed back onto the public platform ‘based on the opinions of users and not his own convictions, tells me that he has no convictions.’
Wheeler also called on users to delete their accounts in protest.
Musk’s U-turn came a year after he publicly refused to welcome Jones back to the platform after he bought it, citing the death of his own child.
One person posted: ‘Bring back Alex Jones’ – to which Musk replied: ‘No.’
Musk continued: ‘My firstborn child died in my arms. I felt his last heartbeat. I have no mercy for anyone who would use the deaths of children for gain, politics or fame.’
However, he appears to have reversed course after Jones appeared in an interview with Tucker Carlson, to which he responded by saying he would ‘consider’ bringing him back.
Musk’s decision to reinstate Jones comes after he appeared in a bizarre interview with Tucker Carlson (pictured together on Thursday), where he claimed President Biden is drugged up on amphetamines and wanders the White House naked and lost in the middle of the night
‘Will consider. In general, since this platform aspires to be the global town square, permanent bans should be extremely rare,’ he said.
‘Also, if he does say something false on this platform, then @CommunityNotes will correct him, whereas that would not be the case elsewhere. Let’s hold a poll.’
The same interview saw Jones bizarrely claim President Joe Biden is frequently drugged up on amphetamines and wanders the White House naked and lost in the middle of the night.
Jones told Carson that he believed Joe Biden was ‘completely out of his mind.’
‘He wanders around for the entire two and a half years naked in the White House. In the middle of the night, doesn’t know who he is.
‘They have to give him a bunch of drugs – a bunch of amphetamines in the morning, and they have to drug him at night.
‘Sometimes he’ll be out for the morning, for a while, then come back at night for a ball. That’s when there’s a real problem.’
Carlson nodded, looking grave. ‘He is on drugs. I have established that,’ the former Fox News host concluded.
