Female pubgoer in her 50s is found dead in bar after being locked in toilet overnight
- The woman in her 50s is said to have been a regular at the Railway Inn, Droitwich
A drinker was found dead in a pub the day after collapsing or falling asleep in the toilets and being left inside when the pub was locked up for the night.
The woman in her 50s is said to have been a regular at the Railway Inn, and had been drinking at the canal side pub on December 3, when a singer had performed for patrons.
It is believed the woman, who is said to have lived around half-a-mile away from the pub in Droitwich, Worcestershire, went to the toilet during the evening but did not return to her table.
Her body was not discovered until the next morning, when pub staff called paramedics.
It is not clear whether the woman may have died of hypothermia or suffered a medical episode in the toilets. Worcestershire Coroner David Reid is awaiting ‘the outcome of various enquiries’ before determining whether an inquest will need to be held.
Temperatures dipped to 0.6C in the area on the night of December 3/4, after a cold snap over the preceding days.

A nearby resident said: ‘I’ve heard she was an Irish lady who frequented the pub regularly. It’s not clear what happened but one story I’ve heard is that she had a heart attack.’
Another resident said: ‘I don’t know whether she fell asleep in the loos or had some sort of medical episode, but it was certainly very cold that weekend. It’s very sad.’
Staff at the pub refused to comment and referred the Mail to the pub’s owners, Admiral Taverns.
A spokesman said: ‘Our deepest sympathies are with the individual’s family and loved ones at this tragic time. An investigation is currently underway and therefore we are unable to comment any further at this time.’
The tragic episode comes weeks after a body was retrieved from the Netherwich canal basin outside the pub.
