EXCLUSIVE: Inside burnt remains of autistic Harry Potter girl’s home torched by Hamas to force out the 12-year-old JK Rowling fan and her grandmother… so the terrorists could kill them
- Noya Dan and her grandmother Carmela, 80, went missing on October 7
- On Wednesday, their family confirmed their bodies had been identified
- Now MailOnline has seen firsthand the burnt-out shell of Carmela’s house
Sombre images have revealed the burnt ruins of the home of Harry Potter fan Noya Dan who was kidnapped and murdered by Hamas terrorists at the Nir Oz Kibbutz on Saturday October 7.
There are only charred remains left inside Noya’s house.
The frame of an electric cooker stands among piles of ash and broken crockery. The fridge is burnt and buckled. The shelves are incinerated. The ceiling has collapsed. The windows are all smashed. The plasterboards walls have tumbled to the ground.
Garden ornaments are blackened and broken. A child’s bike has been stamped upon and twisted. A washing basket is filled with debris.
The terrified 12-year-old – who has autism – was sheltering from rocket fire with her grandmother Carmela when gunmen set the house on fire to force them out.
The pair were abducted – two out of more than 100 residents of the kibbutz – and feared taken hostage back to Gaza to be taunted and terrorised by the Islamic fanatics.
Her plight, echoed in a heart-breaking final message, was highlighted by Harry Potter author JK Rowling.
But yesterday their bodies were found in the fields that surround the settlement whose boundary is just 180m from the border with Gaza.

As artillery fire blasted in the background, Kibbutz spokesman Ron Bahat told how tragic Noya and her devoted grandmother Carmela did not stand a chance.
Ron, 57, said: ‘This was the home of Carmela Dan and her granddaughter Noya. When we came back after the attack we found a lot of blood in their house but they were missing. Yesterday we found their bodies.
‘They had taken shelter from the rockets when the air raid alert went off. But the terrorists set fire to the house to force them out.
‘They are among more than 100 killed and missing from our kibbutz. So far we have confirmed the death of 25 but the number keeps rising. There are more than 80 still missing.’
Noya had been staying with her grandmother when the pair were taken prisoner in Kibbutz Nir Oz, one of the several Israeli communities just miles from Gaza that were attacked by Hamas 13 days ago.
According to Israeli news sources, their bodies were found burned near the Israel-Gaza border fence by workers for ZAKA Search and Rescue organisation.
The Dan family confirmed in a tragic Facebook post late on Wednesday that the bodies of both Noya and Carmela had been identified by rescue workers. The Israeli ministry of foreign affairs also confirmed their deaths.

During a shocking tour of the destroyed and looted settlement, Ron explained the lanes just to be filled with children’s laughter and the sound of birdsong.
The kibbutz was established in 1955 – seven years after the birth of the state of Israel – with the dream of creating a new Garden of Eden. From the dusty soil of the Negev Desert the kibbutz now grows 900 different species of trees, plants and flowers. The name Nir Oz can be loosely translated to mean ‘Courage and Joy’.
Now burnt out cars litter the streets, abandoned kitchen appliances lay on garden paths, toys are scattered around.
Before the devastating news of the child’s death, Noya’s mother had shared her daughter’s tragic final voice message to her – sent as she cowered inside her grandmother’s home while Hamas gunman stalked the kibbutz, searching for residents to kidnap or kill.
‘Mom, there was a big boom at the door that scared me,’ Noya is heard saying in Hebrew in a voice note, played by her mother to Israeli media.
‘All the windows in Grandma’s house were broken at the entrance. Because there was another boom, there are many broken windows. Mommy… I’m scared.’
The deaths of Noya and Carmela were confirmed by Israel’s official Twitter account

Thousands of people, both Israeli and Palestinians have died since October 7, 2023, after Palestinian Hamas militants based in the Gaza Strip, entered southern Israel in a surprise attack leading Israel to declare war on Hamas in Gaza on October 8

Ron said: ‘I was born and I have spent most of my life here. My father never locked the door. There was no need.
‘But I have to ask; Who are the people who came here to kill, to take our lives and destroy?
‘They are terrorists. And anyone who gives money to Hamas is supporting ISIS. They are the same.’
The terrorists burst through the barbed-wire fence that separates the living quarters from the farmland that stretches up to the 1950 ceasefire line with Gaza.
Smoke can be seen rising from the buildings of a Palestinian village nearby. The sound of automatic gunfire rings out across the plain.
Ron points out the burnt out house of other neighbours – Said and Adina Moshe.
‘Said was holding the door of their safe room shut with bare hands. The Hamas could not get in so they broke open the window. They shot Said dead and kidnapped Adina. When we found him he was still holding the door handle.’
Inside the house of another neighbour Yaffa Adar, signs of looting give off an ugly smell. A beer bottle sits on the table. The fridge has been empty. Her bedclothes lie in the floor. Her beloved garden lays untouched but her blinds are broken.
A child’s doll lays among piles of looted possessions, stolen then jettisoned as the killers fled.
Hamas paraded 85-year-old Yaffa through Gaza on one of the golf buggies kibbutz residents use to get around. Her fate in the hands of her kidnappers remains unknown.
Ron and his family were among only four households who were not attacked in their homes. They cowered in terror for eight and a half hours before they were rescued by the Israel Defence Force [IDF].
All the survivors were evacuated to safety. Ron returned the next day.
He explained: ‘We were all evacuated by the army, all of that survived. I made sure my family were safe and I returned the next day.
‘It is painful to see what Hamas did to our community.
‘But I think the world should know what happened here. To know the true horror of Hamas.’
