- FLOTUS has ‘mild symptoms’ and will stay at their Delaware property
- President Joe Biden has been tested and is currently negative
First lady Jill Biden has tested positive for coronavirus, her office confirmed on Monday night – as the White House said President Joe Biden has tested negative.
Dr. Biden, 72, is ‘experiencing only mild symptoms’ and will remain at the couple’s home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, a statement said.
Meanwhile the White House said the president has, so far, tested negative for COVID-19, as cases of the virus are on the rise again globally.
The couple spent Sunday night together at their Rehoboth Beach home before the president split off and flew to Philadelphia Monday morning to mark Labor Day with a speech to union workers.
The president spent several hours at the couple’s Wilmington, Delaware home – which the Secret Service is currently doing work on – before jetting back to D.C. to start the work week.

The first lady had accompanied the president Saturday to Florida to survey hurricane damage and then they headed to their Delaware beach home.
In a statement released Monday, Jill’s spokesman Elizabeth Alexander said ‘This evening, the First Lady tested positive for COVID-19.
‘She is currently experiencing only mild symptoms. She will remain at their home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware,’ Alexander said.
White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said: ‘Following the First Lady’s positive test for COVID-19, President Biden was administered a COVID test this evening. The President tested negative.’
Dr. Biden previously had COVID last August and got stuck at the property the couple had vacationed at on Kiawah Island in South Carolina.
She was prescribed the antiviral Paxlovid and tested positive with a rebound case of COVID several days later.
President Biden tested positive for COVID last July.
He also was treated with Paxlovid and suffered a rebound case days later.
Both the president and first lady are vaccinated and boosted.
The president is expected to leave Thursday for the G20 summit in New Delhi, India.
The first lady was not expected to attend.
‘The President will test at a regular cadence this week and monitor for symptoms,’ Jean-Pierre said.
While COVID cases are on the rise, neither the president nor the first lady have worn a mask in public recently.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the former head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, recently turned heads by conceding that data was lacking on whether masks stopped the spread of the virus.
‘When you’re talking about the effect on the epidemic or the pandemic as a whole, the data are less strong,’ Fauci recently said on CNN. ‘But there are other studies, that show at an individual level, for individuals, they might be protective.’
Former President Donald Trump, who got very sick from COVID when he tested positive in October 2020, just weeks before Election Day, railed against ‘fearmongering’ over the uptick in new COVID cases.
In a video posted to social media Thursday, the GOP presidential candidate – who likely lost the last election over his handling of COVID – commented on the recent spike in cases.
‘The left wing lunatics are trying very hard to bring back COVID lockdowns and mandates with all of their sudden fearmongering about the new variants that are coming. Gee whiz, you know what else is coming?’ Trump mused. ‘An election.’
‘They want to restart the COVID hysteria so they can justify more lockdowns, more censorship, more illegal dropboxes, more mail-in ballots and trillions of dollars in payoffs to their political allies heading into the 2024 election,’ he continued. ‘Does that sound familiar?’
Part of Trump’s push that he unfairly lost the 2020 election came from the widespread use of mail-in ballots due to the pandemic.
Democrats, and thus Biden’s voters, were more comfortable voting by mail as it was encouraged by the party.
Trump and other Republicans pushed their base to vote in-person on Election Day.
This also produced a red mirage, with votes cast on Election Day counted first in many competitive states. Democratic-leaning mailed-in ballots took several days to tally, which was why Biden’s win wasn’t announced until the Saturday after.
As president, Trump first backed lockdowns and then did an about-face several months later. He was always reluctant to put on a mask. He’s wearing in this photo because it was during his October 2020 bout with the disease
‘They rigged the 2020 election and now they’re trying to do the same thing all over again, by rigging the most important election in the history of our country, the 2024 election, even if it means trying to bring back COVID,’ Trump said Thursday. ‘But they will fail because we will not let it happen.’
When COVID cases started popping up in the United States in March of 2020, the Trump administration implemented a 15-day lockdown across the country entitled: ’15 Days to Stop the Spread.’
It later was extended another 30 days.
But after initially backing lockdowns, Trump did an about-face.
He was also insistent about not wearing a mask, turning it into a political issue.
Trump put together Operation Warp Speed to get the COVID-19 vaccines developed and was one of the first Americans vaccinated, though later realized the stance was not popular with the Republican base, as other conservative figures became prominent anti-vaxxers.
On Thursday Trump addressed ‘every COVID tyrant who wants to take away our freedom.’
‘Hear these words: We will not comply. So don’t even think about it,’ he said. ‘We will not shut down our schools. We will not accept your lockdowns. We will not abide by your mask mandates and we will not tolerate your vaccine mandates.’
