Landlord advertises mould-infested one bedroom flat in London for £700 a month – but prospective tenants are convinced it’s a ‘joke’
- Mouldy Croydon basement flat advertised for £700 a month on Facebook
Prospective tenants have blasted a landlord after he advertised a mould-infested one bedroom flat available to rent for £700 a month plus a £500 deposit.
Taxi firm boss Nipesh Jain posted the listing for the dingy looking basement apartment in Croydon, south London on Facebook Marketplace late last night.
And after sharing the advert on several local Facebook groups, many people who commented on it were convinced it was a ‘joke’, ‘prank’ or ‘hoax’.
A photo of the bedroom reveals its dirty, bare floors and faded white-painted walls, which appear to be covered with mould.
The room is kitted out with a bed, a small table and a filthy looking leather sofa – although these may not be included as the listing says the property is unfurnished.

The property on South End in Croydon has a disgusting, apparently mould-infested bathroom
The property on South End is less than a five minute walk from the office of Mr Jain’s cab firm Royal Cars, which is based on Croydon High Street, just down the road.
The photos he shared of bathroom do not give a better impression. The off white walls and door are covered with black marks which appear to be mould.
The sink has some unappealing discolouration, the laminate flooring is unclean and the base of the shower cubicle appears to be speckled with more mould.
The advert states the property has an energy consumption rating of F, so it is fortunate that bills are included with the rent.
Commenters branded the grotty apartment as ‘disgusting’, a ‘s*** hole’ and one person even comparing it to a ‘torture room’, adding that ‘you couldn’t give me £700 a month to live there’.

One commenter accused Mr Jain of being a ‘slumlord’ and another said the property ‘looks like a crack pit’. And one disgusted person said they ‘can’t imagine the smell’.
Another commenter said: ‘Omg gotta be a joke. That is awful. They should pay someone to live there lol.’
MailOnline has reached out to Mr Jain for comment.
