M25 remains shut 10 hours after lorry and car crash left three people ‘seriously injured’: Drivers told to avoid J10 in Surrey as repairs to barriers could last until evening rush-hour

A smash between a lorry and a car on the M25 left three people in hospital with serious injuries and sparked a ten-hour long closure that could spill over into the evening rush hour. 

The M25 clockwise was shut from Junction 10 at the A3 Wisley Interchange to Junction 11 at the A320 St Peters Way following the crash, which took place at around 3.30am today.

Three people were taken to hospital with serious injuries following the incident, police revealed.    

National Highways, formerly known as Highways England, wrote that all four lanes of the M25 clockwise had been shut after the crash. 

The Traffic England website, part of National Highways, said that the crash and closure were expected to be cleared between 5.15pm and 5.30pm, meaning the motorway could be closed until the evening rush hour. 

The National Highways: South-East Twitter page posted at 3.21am today that the M25 clockwise between Junction 10, Wisley, and Junction 11, Chertsey, was closed ‘due to an RTC’.

Traffic officers and emergency attended to deal with the situation.

Motorists had faced mile-long queues throughout today, with delays of around 60 minutes on the clockwise carriageway.

At 1.22pm, National Highways revealed that both vehicles involved in the incident had been moved to the hard shoulder by traffic officers and ‘all lanes 3 and 4 are now clear and running again’.  

But at 1.51pm, they added that the M25 was ‘still closed Junctions 10 #Wisley to Junction 11 #Chersey’ while damage to the barriers and carriageway was being dealt with.

A Surrey Police spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We were called to junction 10 on the M25 clockwise, this morning (12 October), at around 3.30am, following reports of a collision between a car and a lorry. 

‘Three people have been taken to hospital with serious injuries and all four lanes remain closed at this time. We are advising people to avoid the area if possible.’
