Police claim a man ripped off potential renters by more than $60,000 through an alleged social media scam.
NSW Police said detectives from Cumberland police area command began investigating the alleged scam in May after receiving reports tenants paid rental bonds for properties advertised on social media.

Police believe the alleged incidents occurred between February 2022 and last month and related to advertisements for residences in Liverpool, Wentworthville, Auburn, Parramatta and Bondi.
“Following inquiries, investigators arrested a 35-year-old man outside a business on Merrylands Road, Merrylands, about 9am yesterday. He was taken to Granville police station,” police said in a statement.
“A search warrant was subsequently executed at a home in Rhodes, where officers seized a number of electronic devices, documentation and other items which will be subject to forensic examination.”
The man was charged with 34 offences – including nine counts of publishing false or misleading material to obtain advantage, 21 counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception, two counts of knowingly dealing with the proceeds of crime, dealing with identity information to commit an indictable offence, and possessing identity information to commit an indictable offence.
He was refused bail and is due to face Parramatta Local Court on Friday.
