Man clashes with cop who dumped rubbish outside his house and forces officer into humiliating response | The Sun

THIS is the moment a man clashed with a cop who "dumped rubbish outside his house".

Video posted to social media shows the angry homeowner giving the officer a dressing down after he allegedly chucked his sandwich crusts from his patrol car.

After several minutes of arguing the man eventually forces the cop into an humiliating response.

The clip starts with the man approaching the officer parked outside his house and asking him for his badge number.

After giving his details, the Thames Valley police officer is asked: “Have you got an excuse why you’ve pulled up outside my house and thrown rubbish out your car? Is there a reason for that?”

The officer initially denies littering then admits that it was sandwich crusts.

Local authorities can issue fines of up to £150 for "environmental offences" like dropping litter, including food waste.

Clearly enraged, the homeowner asks him: “You think it’s OK to pull up outside somebody else’s house and chuck your lunch or breakfast outside my house – that’s acceptable is it?

“If I done that in front of a police officer, or if a litter enforcement officer saw me do that, I’d get nicked wouldn’t I?”

The officer’s colleague then intervenes to tell him littering is a civil matter.

But the officer who dropped the crusts tells the man: “I can fully understand where you’re coming from.. I will fully take that on board. I will keep that in mind for the future.”

The pair then bicker over whether the officer should pick up the crusts, with the man telling him: “Pick the f***ing crust up and take it with you” while the officer says “I’m not going to do it while you’re telling me to do it.”

“This is my house and you just discard your food on the side of the road without any thought”, the man says.

The second officer then informs the homeowner the crusts have been thrown on the road, which is public and not his private property.

“Well it’s public property so that makes it even worse doesn’t it”, the man tells the officers before telling them he will be making a complaint to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Bizarrely the officer who dropped the crusts then tells the man: “I will take [the crusts] with me if you let me go” causing the homeowner to say “Pick it up then”.

The trio continue to argue and the second officer tells the man to stop shouting adding: “It’s a public place” – causing the man moving onto his drive.

He told them: “Now I’m on private property.”

“You’re shouting into a public area, open to members of the public”, the second officer replies.

The officer says: "I will [pick up the crusts] but please can you stop shouting at me like that, I’m finding it quite disrespectful.”

He replied: “And I don’t think it’s respectful you discard your food outside my house.”

The second officer says: “He’s apologised and he’s going to rectify it, we are just asking you to stop shouting.”

After repeatedly shouting at the officer to pick up the crusts, the officer says “I’m going to if you leave me alone.”

When the man falls silent the officer then picks up the crusts and gets back into the car with his colleague.

A Thames Valley spokesperson said: "We are aware of a video being widely shared on social media involving one of our officers being accused of littering.

"The video has been shared with senior officers, the officer involved and our Professional Standards Department. The individual who recorded the video has also been visited by local officers since the interaction.
