McDonald’s fans left stunned after realising what Sweet ‘n’ Sour is made out of – and it's made some HATE the sauce | The Sun

MCDONALDS fans were left stunned after they realised what ingredient is in a popular sauce.

The sauce in question is the Sweet 'n' Sour and the mystery ingredient – revealed on breakfast show Jase and Lauren – is so shocking it left one person "shaken to their core".

In a resurfaced TikTok video, Lauren Phillips treated her co-host Jason Hawkins with nuggets and his favourite sauce.

But he was horrified when she told him what ingredient made the flavour he loved so much.

Lauren asked: "Have you ever thought about what Sweet 'n Sour sauce is actually flavoured?" While Jase lathered the nuggets in sauce.

She waited for him to take his first bite before she dropped the bombshell, "Would you believe it is actually.. apricot flavour?" she revealed.

A repulsed Jase paused while reality set in and then said: "I hate apricot.. I can taste the apricot now," and chucked the half-eaten nugget away.

The video has the internet in a spin – with many just as gobsmacked as the host.

Some users weren't fazed by the ingredient, although others were more hesitant.

One said: "Omg my mum use to make apricot chicken," and another wrote: "Apricot goes so well with chicken that makes so much sense."

But a third told of a similar discovery that had spoilt a sauce they once loved.

"Finding out about Caesar salad dressing destroyed my love of it," they said.

And one woman said in a video that she was "shaken to her core" when she found out about the ingredient.

The official McDonald's Australia TikTok account also commented and made a stomach-churning suggestion.

"Try dipping your Soft Serve in Sweet and Sour Sauce," it wrote.

Others claim they've known about the true flavour of the sauce for years.

One questioned: "How do people not know this?"

"Sweet n Sour is essentially Apricot jam and white vinegar," claimed another.

Other ingredients in Sweet 'n Sour sauce include peach puree, salt, xanthan gum, garlic powder, cellulose gum, dried chilli peppers, onion powder, caramel colour, extract of paprika and more.

This isn't the only time McDonalds has made the news recently.
