Model, 22, accused of smuggling £1.1million of heroin breaks down in court

A young model accused of trying to smuggle almost £1.1m of heroin on her journey to Ireland broke down in tears after being told her trial had been adjourned again.

Tereza Hluskova was allegedly carrying 9kg of the drug, which was hidden inside statues in her luggage last January, according to authorities.

She was arrested at the airport in Lahore, Pakistan, as she prepared to board a flight to Abu Dhabi, the first leg of her long-haul journey to Dublin.

It is claimed that the 22-year-old Czech beauty travelled to Pakistan after meeting a man in Manchester who had allegedly set up a fake photography studio.

who faces 10 years in prison if convicted, claims she was in Pakistan for a modelling job and the drugs were planted by someone else.

In Pakistan, people caught with more than 10kg of drugs can be sentenced to death.

Hluskova has been on bail and she wants her case to be decided before Christmas so she can fly home and spend the holiday with family if she’s acquitted.

She returned to court on Friday, where she burst into tears when a judge told her that the hearing would be adjourned to December 7.

Her trial has been repeatedly delayed, and it was postponed again on Friday.

After the hearing, Hluskova told how she was desperate to celebrate Christmas with her family back in the Czech Republic.

She said the allegations against her are "fake" and that the court should decide the case before December 25, the Nation reported.

The court recorded statements from prosecution witnesses, and heard that Hluskova was attempting to smuggle heroin out of Pakistan when she was stopped by customs officials.

She was on a three-month family visa at the time of her arrest.

A man accused of helping her has claimed that she was sent to Pakistan by her brother’s friend, and it wasn’t her first visit.

But Hluskova insists that she was there for modelling work and she didn’t know the heroin was inside her luggage.

She has pleaded not guilty.

Two other men are facing drug trafficking charges after police went through the model’s mobile phone.

Authorities claim Hluskova had met a man in Manchester, who set up a ‘fake’ photography studio, the Sun reported.

A customs spokesman told local media: “Once he told Hluskova to visit Pakistan for modelling to promote products of a leading fashion brand, she accepted the offer on the promise of handsome payment.

“She came to Pakistan and resided in Gujranwala for a few days before coming to Lahore airport to fly for Abu Dhabi with the heroin bag given to her.”

The story gained attention when Hluskova was pictured smiling and posing for photos with investigators following her arrest.

Footage shows a customs officer ‘discovering’ the drugs inside the suitcase as the model looks on.

She then puts her head in her hands.

She says in the video: “They gave me something for luggage, three statues or something. They said it was gifts. I didn’t know there was something inside.”

Last month, a Bulgarian man was jailed for three years and four months in the Czech Republic after threatening terror attacks in Pakistan unless Hluskova was released.

Nikolai Simeonov Ivanov, 21, was found guilty of sending threats by email and text message to a TV channel and news website in Pakistan.

He told the court that he didn’t think anyone would take his messages seriously, given that he included his telephone number and email address.
