NJ mayor orders probe after teachers caught in homophobic Zoom chat

A New Jersey mayor has ordered an investigation after two educators were caught cracking homophobic jokes on Zoom about a “gay gym teacher” colleague.

The offensive back-and-forth happened in a group chat during a video call involving Dumont High School teachers, NJ.com reported. The chat was dated Wednesday.

“Why is that kid with the gay gym teacher?” one person on the call asks, according to the report, which cites a screenshot of the conversation.

“Is that her adopted kid? Who is gonna be all f—-d up growing up watching 2 chicks kissing and calling them both mom,” another says.

Dumont Mayor Andrew LaBruno told NJ.com that Dumont High School teachers made the comments during “a Zoom class.”

It was not clear if students were also on the call at the time, or who took and then forwarded a screen grab of the chat.

The matter will be raised at the next Mayor and Council meeting, LaBruno said on Facebook on Saturday.

“Dumont is a welcoming community and my administration will continue to make progress on committees and boards that recognize our diversity and celebrate our friends, family and neighbors,” the mayor said.

Some 4,000 people have signed a Change.org petition demanding the teachers be fired.
